Received an Email today to say that as I have not used a crossing in the last year, the account will be closed unless I make a crossing within the next 90 days, and any credit will be lost. Anyone else had this? Later today I will ring them and try to point out the error of their ways in the current situation

Isn't this the bridge that was going to be free to cross once it was paid for? Which I believe was achieved a few years back.

Yes, quite common,I had one in september. Either you have to cross or top up the account to keep it open.Failing that you need to tell them where to send the refund.
Why they shut them is anybodies guess but you are wasting your time talking to them.

Yes ,that's the one. The one where they changed the rules & the law & made it the only part of the London circular ring road that isn't part of the M25 so that they could continue to charge.

But it’s not a UK company that runs it like many of the Toll roads and bridges in the UK

Hi Clickem, we also haven’t used the bridge or the pipe for a long time (??) but the account is fully topped up, for the lrds scheme and also about 10 trips for the moho, which we didn’t use in 2020 because of lockdown, was your account in credit?

We had the same and we closed the account because we couldn't use it, and they refunded our money. 😁
Our daughter lost her money because although she had planned to go to bluewater on a shopping trip 🙄 it never happened. 🤔 Bob.

Yes, in credit. We last crossed early November 2019, so one year ago. Sounds as though I need to cancel and then start again. They obviously want infrequent users to be Pay as you Go

no it is French but they are just managing agents for the government.

Doesn't matter . No use or top up in 12 months they shut it.

Indeed they do

They closed our account after sending the email because we didn't use it but I phoned them and asked for a refund and I just had to email customer services asking for the refund and telling them what reg numbers were registered on it and how much I thought was left in the account when it was closed. I got a refund about 3 weeks later.

So worth your daughter doing the same.

I set ours up as pay as you cross, no having to leave credit in your account, it just takes the toll fee as and when you cross each time.

We did the same and you can add more then one vehicle this way.

I only use the crossing for about 3 return trips a year and just pay the outward and return toll online a day or two before leaving on each trip.

I have just rung them and they will return the balance to my bank within 2-3 weeks. Next time I will set up a PAYG account. When I originally set up the current account, it was cheaper per crossing to pay that way, until they raised the charge nearer to the one off payment rate

Thanks

I've never looked to see how much having an account saves. I suppose that if you commute using the toll every day an account might save enough to cover the cost of your stress counselling sessions. ;)

We live just a mile or so from the tunnel/bridge in Thurrock (Essex side) so the LRDS (Local Residents Discount Scheme) is available to us, I have to pay £10.00 per year (50 trips at £.20) for our day/day car and £2.00 each way for our moho (used to be £1.67 ???)

Of course we had a load of moho trips planned for 2020, and we generally visit friends in Kent in our car, all of which never happened, owing to lock down, Our account is renewable in August, so I've just renewed. I'll get in touch with them later, but thanks for the heads up.

I don't believe the tunnel has ever been considered part of the motorway since non motorway traffic was able to use it, including accompanied Lerner drivers.
Neither were part of m25. If they had removed tolls & made it free they could have made it part of the M25 but then local traffic, including tractors would have had to be accommodated in some way or prohibited from using it.

I do believe it’s designated as an A road but would have to check the map

the tunnel and bridge are the A282 from the A13 (North side) to the A2 (South side)

They have J31 and J1A M25 at either end of the crossing. So it seems to be entirely M25
Just had a quick peek it is a weird one, have a look on Google maps as well, its actually the A282 not the M25 between those two junctions, but we all know it as the M25! it looks like a Motorway and feels like one although its restricted to 50Mph these days.

Yes it is the A282 from J31 to J1A anything can cross but cyclists have to use the transport vehicle foc. If you wish to cross walking you have to take a bike .

When the tunnel was first opened there were special buses with cycle racks to transport cyclist through. The crossing was in use before the M25 was completed.

Took my refund 3 months to arrive. Apparently needed two people to sign off on a cheque for £4.09!
cost them more in admin I'm sure but why should they keep it?
