hi im going to look at a motorhome tomorrow which has some damp in the front which I suspect is from the alloy strips that seal walls to sides ,someone must have done this before do you take the strips of and put sealer under the strip and then refix or do you seal the sides off the strip with the strip left in place and what have you used to seal the strips ? I would assume one off the sika flex sealers but which one ?any answers appreciated

you have the basic idea, take off the cover strip, then the skirt. Clean it all up and dry out, replace rotten wood. Then reassemble using mastic or mastic strips and new screws. If you want belt and braces, once the mastic excess is cleaned off, you can add a bead of sikaflex to seal the cover strip

thanks for your reply The big 1 im not quite sure what is the skirt ,I assume the interior wall will hwve to be taken out to replace if needed any rotten wood

The actual wall of the van ends at the floor and the part that carries on is the skirt. The cover strip tends to cover the joint and the manufacturer tends to not seal them brilliantly. If you are lucky and caught it in time, the wood in the wall will not be rotten

I have done this type of repair on a 5 year old Motorhome many moons ago
And I was very successful, like the Big1 advises remove all the trim and strip off all the Old sealant
I would invest in a good damp meter and check every where
Thehehen going forward do a regular check every where
And get it checked professionally every couple of years
