Hi

Fiat Ducato year 2019 ..

We have unfortunately received damage to the suspension for the rear Left leaf spring.
See photo.
Fiat denmark, can / will not deliver a new fitting ...
There is no spare part number on this part at Fiat.
I suspect that it is damage to the frame itself, and therefore for safety reasons can not be made ....
And therefore that the car is totally damaged ?.

Have you experienced anything similar ??

Regards

Flemming

yes it can not be approved, according to Danish authorities, it is believed that it is too weak in the metal

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
From the photos it seems to be only the spring hanger not the spring and certainly doesn't look unsafe to me and I restore vehicles. I cannot imagine a vehicle in the U.K. being failed for that as from the photos it has only been grazed on a rock or a kerb stone.
To strengthen it to satisfy the (U.K.) authorities (if the tester was that fussy) I'd reinforce it by welding a plate over it with a longer bolt if necessary.

Tis merely a flesh wound ! I personally can't see what the problem is, but then I don't know Danish vehicle laws. If it is a big problem, I would look for an accident damaged vehicle in a scrap yard and cut one from that and have it welded in place. Having said that, if a minor scrape such as this is a major vehicle problem, I doubt your traffic laws would allow you to take parts from another vehicle ?

Can't you just wire brush off the flaky bits then slap on a coat of good thick underseal over the whole rear? It looks worse than it actually is.

Again to me it doesn’t look to be a problem and looks more like it’s bent up the outer lip. If you have to do something then I would find a classic car workshop, or matal smith that could apply a bit of heat and reshape or add a bit more metal if required by welding.

it looks "superficial " damage to me. personally i would be tapping it back into shape and undersealing it. I would then take it to a different test station.

however, I would be very surprised if a good body / blacksmiths shop could not repair that.

What everyone else has said .Dress it back in to shape , cover with underseal & that should be enough. In all honesty anyone stating that that shows the material isn't strong enough should not even be employed.

I would get a workshop to fill weld it, file to shape and under seal….👍🏼

I'm a newbie
Definitely, there's no way that's ever going to fail in normal use , can you imagine it being a cat B for that, too unsafe to go back on the road

many many years! since I was a kid
the spring hanger has taken a minor knock, and does not appear to be badly damaged at all from the photos. The spring hangers are welded to the chassis during manufacture and as far as I know are not available as a replacement part. Straighten it up (hammer), clean it and paint with underseal to prevent future rust
