I am thinking about fitting a DAB radio adapter to my bessacarr E 425 So that I can get good radio reception on my analogue radio as I travel round my main touring area, the Scottish highlands.
I have looked at a few installation videos and it seems that I need to fit the magnetic antenna ground on the steel of the underside of the cab roof. This is to give the antenna a good signal but I doubt that will work on my MH as the above cab bed and high top bodywork will probably interfere.
has anyone fitted a DAB adapter. Can you give me some pointers. Do they work well in remote areas like the highlands. Can anyone recommend a good device.

thanks

I`d be suprised if you can get any sort of a strong signal around the Scotish Highlands

Sorry John, friendly banter, not wanting to upset you. On my travels in the highlands I found that I had to switch from DAB to Fm regularly and most of the time I had to keep the radio tuned into FM. I am not technical, but I believe that DAB transmitters are in short supply in Scotland and the signal is a little ‘line of sight’ so mountains don’t help.
I am sure someone will be along soon from Scotland with the full SP

We also regularly tour around Northern Scotland and access to reliable services is frequently difficult.
DAB is even worse and, I think, termination of FM services has been delayed as a result of poor reliable coverage (not just Northern Scotland).

Streaming may be a better option?
3G signal in a number of areas in Northern Scotland would be like finding the "Holy Grail" so probably give issues, as well.
FM is probably the most viable reasonable audio quality option.

DAB is hopeless beyond central Scotland.

I would suggest streaming from a phone (assuming you have an AUX input to the radio).

I looked into changing our pioneer radio to DAB, having done some research about the arial etc, I decided it wasn’t worth the hassle so I use BBC-sounds app on my mobile and plug it into the aux. socket.
As said above mobile signal could be a problem.
