We are hoping to spend a few days there in a couple of weeks or so and thinking about some cycling. We have folding bikes and have looked at the maps and cycle routes but it is not clear if any of the cycle routes are available without paying to go into the National Trust property

Anyone familiar with the place please?

If you park anywhere in the park a warden comes round and wants £5. Might be more now, it was about 6 years ago.
If you're just going in on bikes I expect it will be free.
You mention staying there, do you mean in the club site? I think it's the caravan club iirc. Or wild camping?

You don't need to be a member to cycle around the park.lots of cycling to choose from. I know the park has been closed and only available by booking a slot with the national trust. But that had probably changed. Are you stopping on the CMC site.If so there are Tracks straight from the site.

Yes, sorry should have been clearer, we will be staying at the C&MC site at Clumber Park. Stayed many times, but as a stop off on the way to the channel, so thought we would stop a few days and explore a bit more

You currently need to book, until the 5th of July, hoping to avoid that, by not being inside the National Trust paid for area

We took the van to Clumber last week just for the day and was surprised that we didn't have to pay on the outer roads/areas. You normally have to.
Just be careful BTW to securely lock your bikes when on site as there are spates of thefts.

When we were there a bloke had 2 bikes nicked and they were chained to a tree. Nobody saw anything.

You can ride anywhere in Clumber for no additional charge. Some tracks may be wet and muddy but there are plenty to get lost in. The CMC have a secure garage for bikes. If adventurous, there is a railway path that eventually gets you to Lincoln, then on to Boston. Otherwise stick with Sherwood Forest and the Mighty Oak.

No put me off Clumber Park, warnings about bike thefts I then felt I'll at ease. I like wooded sites, but something about Clumber park I didn't like.

If you're staying on the site you don't need to pay anything and there's lots of good riding from the campsite.
However! As above, the warden did warn me last time I was there that bike theft is an issue but they do offer secure lock-up for your bikes.
Enjoy
Phil

Thanks for the warnings about cycle theft. Cycle is stored in garage and not usually left out of my sight

I agree with the other posts about security. We stayed one night last year on the way up to the Lakes and were advised to take the bikes off of the back of the MH and put them into Fort Knox style building overnight. Apparently groups of thieves go round fully tooled up with angle grinders etc. It wasn’t conducive to a good nights sleep and we felt there was an atmosphere at the site that we didn’t like. Would never stay there again.

If you aren’t on the campsite, people park outside the gates on the A614 near the hotel and walk through the gates. (y)

I don't think bike theft is localised to Clumber Park it happens everywhere.
The area is safe and the cycle paths are extensive. Route 6 of the national cycle route passes by Clumber Park and travels the length of the country. There are no charges for using the cycle paths and if your on the site you'll be free to roam where you like. I would suggest heading into Sherwood Forest on the route 6 and if adventurous even further into Sherwood Pines which has it's own choice of cycle routes of differing abilities.
Ignore the negatives on here and enjoy your stay. It is a beautiful forest.

As far as I am aware the park is still allegedly closed to the public. The campsite is due to open in July.

We were there this week on the bikes, it was like a bank holiday weekend.

Yes been like that for weeks, whilst still allegedly closed,(much to the annoyance of my daughter who lives there) According to website open for ticketed bookings :Eeek:
