Custom fitting Air con? (1 Viewer)

Hi - does anyone know of a place that will fashion air con to fit? The roof vent on our PVC is circa 650mm wide so a standard 400mm unit will need substantial in-fill to fit. It will need to be sturdily built and fit / seal to the metal roof.

Any ideas?

any decent fabricators should be able to make something suitable. as you have a metal roof its a shame it cant be welded but i suspect roof lining and insulation will make that virtually impossible

You'd have thought so but x2 local firms have both said No. Guess they are all just fitters these days.

Not really, it's only a 5.4m Van and it has a shower and a solar panel. Right above the rear double bed would be theoretically possible but you might stub your nose on it through the night

Just wondering why you need aircon as you can only run it on EHU unless you have an enormous battery bank.
We have had Fantastic vents in our last two vans, they do a good job of keeping the temerature down. we don't have a problem sleeping even when it's in the 30's, plus you soon acclimatise to higher temps.

We have had Fantastic vents in our last two vans, they do a good job of keeping the temerature down. we don't have a problem sleeping even when it's in the 30's, plus you soon acclimatise to higher temps.

It doesn't take a lot of sunshine for the interior of a steel made PVC to heat up considerably faster than a GRP coachbuilt or A Class. They become colder a lot quicker too.

Small desk fan stood behind a bowl of ice cubes and water.
Won't last very long but it will cool the air.

a wet cotton sheet hung over an open window with a fan sucking air in. Simple technology used in the arab countries for millenia

You can get 12V aircon. I had it in my first van, then mains in my second (which will run off a genny if I'm allowed to mention that). I now use Fantastic and am happy with that. Not sure that aircon is as good as its promise, maybe open vents and windows with an oscillating fan would be a cheaper solution? How many vans have aircon? If not many, it would suggest that most of us survive without...

Agree with Lenny HB had a RV with twin aircons , but 99% of the time Fantastic Roof fan vents (or Maxxair) achieve adequate result , and unless you have onboard gennie ( as in RV) you need EHU to run aircon .

Yep, it's the biggest downfall unless you have a few lithium batteries and an inverter just for the unit but then you'll still only get a couple of hours.

Biggest bonus I suppose is that with a PVC you can always have the rear and side doors open all day long.
