tried a reboot, fail
looked at the DOS properties, all ok in CMD
Checked for driver updates, all up to date
Reinstalled keyboard, not fixed.

Suggestions?

Not being daft, but copy/paste would be ctrl-c, ctrl-v, not the other way round. If you’re doing ctrl-v first then there’s nothing to paste. I only mention this as I’ve managed to convince myself of the sequence of actions before and got it wrong.

Failing that, is the ctrl key broken? Do other shortcuts using the ctrl key still work?

Also, on a Mac it’s possible to remap all the shortcut keys, I can’t remember whether this is possible on a PC. But if you didn’t remap them, I don’t see how that could have happened.

They appear to be ok..

Perhaps the keys have gone on strike in protest at having to copy and paste any more content from the Daily Mail!

But seriously, do you have a different keyboard that you can plug in to see if it works then? That would at least rule out a defective control key or keyboard driver fault.

You mentioned DOS but is it the CMD prompt in windows?
Have your command prompt windows gone back to default settings?

In this screen shot using CTRL+C and +V are disabled.

The screenshot is from here. The text there is less useful than the pic tho ?

FWIW I use the mouse a lot more for copy n paste rather than the keyboard yy
That’s enabled in the CMD prompt with “Quick Edit mode”. 🤔

What software are you using? Still works for me in Office apps like MS Outlook, Word and Excel. I just highlight what I want copying using the mouse and then press Ctrl-C Then use the mouse to click where I want to paste it.

Both Office and Windows let you manage hotkeys but very dependent on versions on how it's done. Google is your friend.. look up 'disable hotkeys in ..... ' enabling them will be the reverse.

Are you using a wired or wireless keyboard?

Particularly with wireless keyboards I have sometimes had to power everything off, clear the CMOS and start again - not had that for a long time but it has worked in the past.

Have you recently updated to Windows 11, especially to its latest iteration?

Those key combinations seem to have become very hit & miss in File Explorer with the latest updates. Mind you, File Explorer has generally become a bit unresponsive all round after recent updates.

I've got one of these you can borrow ... :giggle:
