Anyone changed the stalk? Is it possible without removing the steering wheel/airbag? Mine is kaput I think, Error P0579
I've posted on the Fiat forum but so far it's fallen on deaf ears.

I'm just waiting for one to be fitted under warranty.

It has a mind of it's own, sometimes works by the book, sometimes, press Up and it tries to take off.

Sorry I can help on fitting it thought they said it was a quick job.

Mines the same but I believe that most of the problems are just dodgy contacts. If it comes off without the steering wheel then I'll have a go, but I don't want to start messing around with the wheel/airbag connectors:oops:

Finally got it sorted today.

The whole stalk cluster has been changed, both sides, all one unit they said. I did not see the job so no wiser as to how difficult it is.

Phew! Ours is now outside the 3 year “warranty”. I put warranty in quotes as when push came to shove, almost nothing was covered. If I were buying again, would not be suckered into an extended 3 year warranty.
Anyway, glad you got it sorted under warranty.

How did you get the stalk off without removing the steering wheel ? Do you by chance have any pics of how you did it?
Our cruise control is just accelerating and have to turn off.
Thanks

Test was a failure but I have tried again to adjust/clean the terminals don't have any pics but remove fuse cover, remove bottom cover( two screws) remove bottom half of steering column cover (mine has four 3mm hex screws) then the stalk is held with two plastic tabs, I used two small screwdrivers to hold them off then it just pulls out remember to remove the connector first.

I have got this far but can't work out how to get the stalk off. It looks like I need to get at the screw that needs the steering wheel off to get a screwdriver on. Any idea's. Cheers Tribby

At positions 12oclock and 3oclock as you look at your picture there are plastic tabs. Hold both of these away from the body and it simply pulls out.

I can't work out how you could do that as the stalk is under the steering wheel unless you are under 2' tall.:ROFLMAO:

Tried mine over the weekend and it worked perfectly. I got rid of the grease with contact cleaner. I know it might rub off the copper track eventually without it but know how to get at it now to fix it again. Cheers again csd4t.
