I'm a newbie
Hi all, we have a 2003 2.0 JTD Fiat ducato been looking into having cruise control retro fitted also been looking into having it chipped anyone had any of these done is it worth it?!?! TIA ?

Had a retrofit done on a Hymer star line, Merc engine. About £300, worth every penny. Didn’t have it chipped, plenty of power, just change gear more.

So you had cruise control but dont think its worth having chipped??

A few years ago, we had a Swift Kontiki (2005 I think) we towed a Nissan Micro on a trailer and need a bit more umph so had it chipped. Happy with outcome, more power or economy depending on how driven or towing.

I think Dave Newal still fits cruise.

we had cruise control fitted near Peterborough, he does it on his driveway, takes about 2 hours. do some searches on here and you will find some previous posts, well worth the money. I think he is a member on here (joined not long after fitting ours) we have also had it chipped via TDI tuning in Chelmsford, too early to tell whether it makes a difference or not though. the tuning box can be transferred to a newer van if we ever want to change vans.

cruise control is a major plus and i wouldnt be without it, though my wife doesnt like using it as she doesnt feel in full control

Our first MH was a 2003 Swift Sundance 590RL on a 2.3 Fiat Ducato, we had cruise retrofitted with a ‘Tunit’ box by Essenjay in Poole. Transformed the vehicle, especially where hills were concerned.

Yep, he did mine as well - the name alex cruise comes to mind?

Well happy with mine & it's the standard peugeot fitment, not after market

I have never had a cruise control retrofitted but cruise in general is one of the biggest safety benefits and I strongly recommend you having it done.

In towns I set the speed but sit with my foot over the brake pedal adapting the speed with my hand control. It leads to far more security and safety.

Out on the open road you can keep your eyes open for traffic rather than worrying about the cursed speed cameras.

As far as chip tuning is concerned we have every car we have chip tuned.

Be aware that a re-map, is far better than a cheap tuning box which are variable in improvement. Go to an expert for a re-map and you will transform the drivability of your camping car.

Ignore the idiots who will warn you about engine or gearbox problems. You will not have any.

I want to get this done to my van, anyone know anyone in gloucestershire who fits them?

Fitted a TDI tuning box to a 2.3 ducato well impressed tested on the Route Grand Alpes in France better consumption and plenty of go. 7 levels to adjust output.

We have cruise control on all vehicles, though SWMBO refuses to use it on her car. I find the speed limiter more useful and have this on the MH and on the car I drive the most, my old Landrover had cruise but no speed limiter and I didn't find this so useful..
I have never felt the need to rechip anything, but then I have never had an underpowered vehicle, my MH has a 3L V6 engine (Mercedes) though some of the Fiat offerings seem a bit overoptimistic.

I had this company remap my van at one of the shows, it was done 3yrs ago and has been excellent - completely trouble free. I've also had cars done in the past and have never had any issues. Looking at their website, they have a mobile dealer in Gloucester.
