The Thread 'Wilding in Ayrshire' reminded me of this place.. a fantastic beach I first went to as a kid..

Croy Shore, Ayrshire.. at low tide you could drive along the beach and park anywhere you liked,, the further you drove the wilder it got until you were right below Culzean Castle ..

My dad first took us there as kids.. I had my first driving lesson in an old Commer Cob van driving along the miles of hard sand...

The last time I was there was in the late 80s, probably 1987..I took Jan there just after we met and we camped on the beach.. in a tent.. built a campfire and sat and watched the stars.. in the morning we saw a deer grazing in the grass.. not 50 mts from where we were pitched.. what a fantastic place it was.. Only yesterday Jan mentioned it and said how she would love to go back in a camper van..

So I looked it up on Google maps and my worst fears were realised.. it has been commercialised, row upon row of wooden holiday shacks.. the National Trust have blocked the vehicle access to the beach and made a car park with a gate that closes at 7.30pm.. and a big sign No Overnight parking..

Google Street View

How I hate it when a wild place is commercialised, and lost for ever to those who just like to do their own thing.. Now it's all concrete and made easy, parking, loos, ramps.. etc .. the adventure removed.. sanitized for the masses .. made easy and used as a cash cow. :(

What wild places do you remember that have now been commercialised.. lost forever.. ?

Lands End.

Went on hols 1948ish nothing much there, don't even think the sign post had been set up then.

Went back a few years ago and couldn't believe it, more like Blackpool than Cornwall. Spoil it forever.

A prime example.. I remember my dad taking us there in the 50s.. last visited in 1988.. never again..

I recall it well, as I turned around and left without even taking a photo..

Heritage GB .. my ass .. more like how to fill your bank account..

History from Wiki ..
1987 Peter de Savary purchased Land’s End for almost £7 million from David Goldstone.[5] He had two new buildings erected and much of the present theme park development was instigated by him[citation needed]. He sold both Land's End and John o' Groats to businessman Graham Ferguson Lacey in 1991.[6] The current owners purchased Land’s End in 1996 and formed a company named Heritage Great Britain PLC[citation needed]. Attractions at the theme park include children's playgrounds and recorded music. Twice a week in August there are firework displays. within the complex is the Land's End Hotel.[7]
