Starting to see a lot of very low mileage 2020 to 2022 motorhomes for sale.
One local dealer has about a dozen motorhomes for sale that are all less than three years old and have only done on average 2000 miles per year.
Is this the start of people who bought a new motorhome during Covid now deciding that they prefer their holidays to a nice hotel in the sun?
There certainly appears to be many more for sale than there was this time last year.
The prices don't appear to be dropping by much though!

I recently bought a 2020 plate with 4200 miles. I've since been in contact with the 2 previous owners and both traded in for MH with more space so nothing to do with leaving the activity. A small sample I know though!

I agree. There are plenty of 2020/2021 private sales on Autotrader for example.

I suspect they are either not 100% committed to the lifestyle or perhaps don't feel they purchased the correct layout etc and see a window of opportunity to sell for the price they originally paid or perhaps even more.

If you bought a 2020 (or 21/22) van chances are you ordered before covid….

Down Southdowns last week and they have some new vans for sale in the showroom and probably a dozen secondhand ones for sale.
Not sure what was available in the yard out back as never walked around there.

I suspect there are also a lot of paddle boards inflatable kayaks cycles camping gear etc in peoples garages. In addition with inflation and people having to change thier mortgage’s there will inevitably be a few for sale. It could be we are starting to see a ‘normalised’ market in that pre-Covid and the latest rush to buy the market will get back to pre Covid times.

Edited to say whilst someone may be able to have afforded the MoHo, in addition to tax insurance etc it’s a big lump of money sitting around when that cash could help with school fees and other family expenses in addition to that mortgage.

The test will be whether this used stock will sell at current high prices, or whether by September it will stay stuck on forecourts.

It is the start of the season, and new MHs seem to be on long lead times, so dealers might be optimistic about finding eager buyers.

No ordering required then, dealers used to stock them 😀😀

Yep...we bought ours in march 2021. Brand new straight off the forcourt. Not a COVID motorhome though - Done 19000 in it in 2 years.

To be fair there were lots of very low miles ones for sale when we were looking in 2021. I think there are a lot of people who buy them and only use them for short jaunts around the UK. Also lots that seem to sell quickly or upgrade. Clearly a lot of people not short of money!

This one...guy had it on order for 13 months or so I think. Finally got it in January this year. Added extras such as towbar, WiFi, air suspension, alarm/tracker and then put it up for sale 2 months later with less than 500 miles on the clock. Love to know the story behind that.

Probably only paid £70,000 for it, profiteering!

Sometimes I hear people buy them and then find that thier partner does not like it and has to sell.

I bought our Arto when I was single. I was lucky that when I got together with Basia that she loves the lifestyle and we both like the same places to tour. Her Mother liked coming with us for short trips to Slowakia.

Basia was not so keen on the boat, although she likes Greece, but the boating days were coming to an end, which is why I had bought the MH - same lifestyle, different propulsion and parking.

That depends on the make and model.

Even in 2019 mine was on a 12 month waiting list and by mid 2020 that was 2 years!

If you could order one today its verbal 2025 delivery.
BUT without any guarantee of a date or even the final price you will pay!!!

I suspect that demand has now peaked but prices are being kept high due to the shortage of new vehicles.
I see that Swift currently have a TV ad running.
If sales are so good and they can sell all that they can make, then why do they need to spend money to advertise on TV?
Perhaps they see a downturn on the horizon.
Fortunately we changed our motorhome 18 months ago.
The same motorhome today costs £20K more.
I think it will be a long time (if ever) before we buy another new one.

Nice one, I think it also highlights having a partner with similar interests helps 👍

I visited our dealer for a warranty job and remarked that they now had plenty of motorhomes for sale. When we bought our present one, (August 2021), they had very few.

They told me that sales had been very low since January this year. Even Servicing had been down on previous years.

Yup been over to Andover and happened to drive past the Abacus site then popped into Marquis in Surrey on the way home in a futile attempt to get a length of rubber hose (don't keeps spares any more evidently!). Both had plenty of stock. Interestingly Marquis still have at least 3 Mobilvetta P80's which they have for a good few months now, which I'd expected to have seen shift as well spec'd. All very frustrating though seeing stock on forecourts when our wait since Oct 21 continues.

Same here. From longish trips on my GS to my old school and friends in Brno, to Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Italy and of course France and Spain. Only two new hips put her off bikes.

Now we Moho together after years of car trips and a flirtation with timeshare.
