I wish all the governments would all use the same formula, but they won't so I thought I would post Scotland's guide.

Perhaps someone could add the England, Wales & Ireland versions onto this thread so that we can compare them.

That looks even more daft than the English lockdown

What? No chance, I'm confused already!

Well, I think it’s a great idea. If law allows we intend visiting wonderful Scotland over Christmas instead of heading to Europe.

A thread trying to make sense of all the different views would be very welcome.

We don’t follow the rules for ourselves, we all do it for the benefit of everyone.

It seems it doesn’t matter what system there is, went to Aldi for some shopping and people everywhere... on the beach having picnics, people in holiday homes, busy roads and plenty around shopping and lots on the trails with bikes...

I think it’s still holidays down here...🤔

I just feel sorry for the poor Coronavirus. How does it know where the borders are? How does it know who it can and who it cannot infect in which country? How does it know how long isolation is in different countries? As for social distancing some places it needs to be able to jump 2 metres, some 1 metre, I’m sure I read 1.5 metres in one country. Come on, hows a virus meant to survive?

I would be happy to tell you about the rules here in Wales...........

......but they changed just over two weeks ago, changed again today and are due to be reassessed in two weeks.
That is part of the problem though, everything is so fluid, BUT they could make the rules a little more streamline and all use the same basic formula, but they won't.

But there is no indoor socialising in any of the tiers in Scotland at the moment and hasn’t been since before they were introduced, despite it being the first item listed in the lowest 2

Think I may have broken the outdoor socialising Rule today. While talking at the door to a friend, another friend came past and we spent 5 minutes chatting.

Queen Nicola is never, repeat never going to follow the Covid rules set by the U.K. government.
She would see that as not being in control.
She brought in the tiers but right from the start, the first item in tiers 0 & 1 did not apply, not that anywhere is in tier 0!

Looks pretty clear but it's based on Tier areas which relate to health board areas and the advice now is no travel outwith your local authority areas (council) so more confusion. But then it only applies to people who have actually read it or listened to the advice. Not everyone does.

The travel advice doesn’t mention local authority areas. It says not to travel to or from a higher tier to a lower one.

Well I’m in Angus and just moved from tier 2 into 3 and whilst disappointed I’ll certainly do my part to help beat this. I prefer our system and feel the 5 tier system is as simple or as difficult as you choose to make it. I find it simple enough. We know what local authority we’re in so just check the rules for that tier and follow them. Resistance to do so will only drag it out longer. I feel Nicola is doing her best for us. IMHO.

The guidance behind the Scottish 5 tier system runs to over 20 pages, I don't think anyone understands it.
Apparently us plague ridden sods in S.Ayrshire are on the cusp of going into Tier 4. So last night I grabbed a beer and had a go at reading the webpages ... got bored / confused and gave up after 5 minutes.

When devolution was devised giving responsibility for healthcare to each nation, I doubt dealing with a worldwide pandemic was envisaged.

I think a UK wide approach would have been better for this small [geographically speaking] small island.
All 4 nations, and all political parties, should have worked together. The only way to tackle the COVID issue.

I won't get involved in the independence debate - save to say that currently the UK is one country, except for some locally devolved powers.

I hope Governments from around the world do all they can to make a vaccine available as widely as possible to those countries that have not had the money or the foresight to order and fund it. It will benefit all of us if as many people as possible gain immunity as fast as possible.
I believe there is a scheme for just that:

I agree that I know which tier we are in and using the Tableau website mentioned earlier in this thread we can drill down to a very local area when required - between 1 and 4 in our local area and 65 in the local authority area during the 7 days between 2 and 8 November. The highest case count is where there is a boundary with Edinburgh and The Lothians as one would expect.

It would be far more difficult for someone coming into Scotland to know which local authority area they were in and what the restrictions were.

It's easy for us as we are between the English Border and the Central Belt so the advice is not to go north or south :)
