COVID -19 NOTIFICATION
When everyone was having problems with their mobile phones earlier this month "they" were adding Covid-19 trackers to our phones! If you have an android phone go to SETTINGS then GOOGLE SETTINGS and it's there. If you have an iPhone go to SETTINGS, PRIVACY, then HEALTH.
Sneaky eh :) It's off at the moment but who knows if or when it will be automatically be activated.

But you can disable it😉
I disabled it on mine at least a month ago

You still need to download the app, I think the subject has been covered on here a few times last week ;)

Not really true. It is simply a layer that both google and Apple have added to facilitate the use of such an app should the user choose to install one. They already know exactly where you are etc at any time when you have your phone with you anyway, enhanced by people posting on social media.

it is a very good idea to have this facility on a phone as it my prevent/mitigate a second wave or further pandemic. Nothing compels the user to use it and it is not an app itself

It is just a part of the operating system that enables bluetooth to run in the background so that Covid notification apps will run and can be turned off by the user. Operating systems are regularly updated to take account of new procedures.
