So I got my van on Monday properly after the cab seats finally went back in following a full upholstery refurb by Regal. I’ll post before and after pics later as still waiting the carpets. They had the roll delivered but it had a serious crease n it so they were asking for a replacement roll. Hopefully no more than a week or two.

Anyway. Job 1 today was to rip off the steel wheels and trims and replace with some used but like new Ducato Alloys. Really pleased with the results.

And job 2 was to remove the god awful fake stick on Rover style wood trim from the dashboard.
I can’t imagine for the life of me who ever think that adds anything to the finish. It’s just cheap and nasty.

Lots to do still to de-age it and bring up to spec. Bit getting some good traction with it now I feel.

Looking good and much better without that tacky fake wood. I had that on my dash when I bought my Burstner and was almost peeling it off on the way home I disliked it so much. (y)

Landy Andy I agree about the age thing. I am often puzzled about liking things others tell me are ugly: my Morris 1000, the Lada and a Maestro I owned, and a very square Fiat Panda my wife hated. I even bought a Talbot Express (old shape cab) because I liked the shape. It could be nostalgia, or just bad taste!

Looks much better with new upholstery, are the cab seats covers over the originals ?
They fully removed the old seat covers and replaced with the one piece design. I am not sure if all the foams were replaced but certainly some of them were.

The whole interior was replaced. Sofa. Rear Travel seats at the diving table were recovered and new foams. Headboard. Another trim piece. Curtains and carpets. Mostly all new foams in the seats. And then of course both front seats. Cost was £2090 + VAT

Fake wood looks like the naff colour they use in Carthago furniture. The birch colour that Hymer use is much superior :)

Original solid wood dashes in old cars are lovely. Solid carbon fibre in a modern Ferrari or something is fine, because (again), it's structural and has a purpose (in this case to save weight and be very rigid).

Fake wood and stick on carbon fibre are both incredibly naff and pointless tatt!

Personal opinion only. Each to his own, of course 😁

Nice upgrades that look right and reduce the aged looks. I was offered a wood trim kit for our Mk5 Transit but I declined it not trusting how well it would stay stuck on during warmer weather.
My father had a Rover in the 60,s with proper wood trim. It looked right for the age and style of the car but I dont think it works with more modern vehicles.

I would counsel against the silver vents illustrated by Smiffy. They reflect on to the windscreen. I had some silver surrounds on the previous moho dash and covered them with insulating tape.
