A few years back we got chatting (as you do) to a couple on a campsite who arrived in a beat up old Land Rover towing a Sprite Alpine that looked even worse for wear. It didn't take long before the wine was flowing and yarns were being told. By late evening we were all a little worse for wear when this huge caravan being towed by a huge 4x4 pulled into the next bay. We all waved and nodded as we watched an endless stream of bodies stepping out of this monster truck. In no time at all Gran and Grandad pulled up their chairs alongside us and cracked open a couple of beers. According to grandad the son had come into a fair bit of money and bought this brand new rig which included a brand new awning the size of a barrage balloon. The son and his wife didn't have a clue, they stood looking at this heap of canvas on the ground that resembled a beached whale. So it was all hands to the pump and once we had agreed where each pole had to go it was a doddle. The last peg was driven home by torch light and we all stood back and tried to admire our handy work. The next morning when we had sobered up I was drinking my first cup of tea when the missus looked up and says You notice anything funny about next doors awning. That's right, those of you that's done it will know what's coming. Are the curtains supposed to be on the outside she says. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, anyway we all ended up best of mates and as it happened the couple with the beat up old Land Rover were the organisers for the Country Cavalcade Show which used to be held at the Royal Bath and West show grounds. I was given the job marshalling the classic cars and my wife became an accomplished BBQ chef but then our interests became more involved elsewhere and we lost touch. So my question is does anyone know of similar agricultural and live stock shows that allow visitors to camp overnight on site
