Hi all

Following the recent threads mentioning the use of dashcams in certain countries, I thought this might be useful. It gives a list of countries that have restrictions and, more specifically, what those restrictions are. I hope you it helps someone :)

Thanks for this.
I wonder what guidance there is on laws for vehicles that have cameras for stuff like parking, reversing or cruise control? My moho has rear cameras. It is all about the data storage?

Not worth taking a front facing camera abroad in my book.

If you "have nothing to hide you shouldn't have a proble" is what is usually spouted when people complain about the cctv everywhere in the Uk. Same applies anywhere.

I don't know about other countries but the French Laws are very strict on recording people. If you have CCTV here, you cannot cover any part of property of land beyond your boundary. I don't know if it's based on storage or just the fact that people are being recorded. They are very pro-privacy.

I remembered to turn mine off in Luxembourg last time we were 'over there' but was unaware about Switzerland but we were only there for a day.

The Aguri sat nav has a built in dash cam, so if you can't even have one in the vehicle in Portugal I guess you need a different sat nav.

To see how paranoid German is about DashCams all you need to do is check out their streetview coverage.
Which when compared to every other country in the western world is almost non-existent.
The minimal coverage that there is of Germany has not been updated since 2009.

At some point this will come back to bite the Germans, as things like automated cars will need it for location routing, and and SatNav suppliers need it to make corrections.

It will also leave a hole in the historical archive, 100 years from now it will be fascinating to look at how your road used to be in the 2000's, 2010's, 2020's etc. Most of Germany will be missing.

I always have my dashcam on I have some good clips of my travels. I also stick my gopro on the out side of my van if we are in nice scenery.

They are not allowed in Portugal at least in 2018. But a Portuguese lorry hit a french registered car in Germany then hit us. Going through the nightmare of insurance companies it was the Portugal lorries insurance company that asked my insurance company if I had any dash cam footage of the accident.
