If it were just the UK I'd be a bit sceptical over motive, but a lot of countries seem to be worried. Does make me wonder if they know more than is public yet.

Really hoping Christmas can go ahead almost normally this year and also campsites etc can stay open. I mean, I'm happy to wear masks when out and maybe go more towards social distancing again if needed , plus we already take a test before we go anywhere. But I would like to see family and friends as well.

Not that it's worth worrying about. Not much any of us can do anyway.

But even if many cases of omicron are mild, if there are many many cases (which I think does seem likely) then even a small % in hospital could be a large number.
we are going to be very careful.

They only consider one aspect though when advising on how to deal with the virus.
The politicians have to make a balanced judgement taking into account multiple perspectives and it's not an easy task, in fact a nightmare because someone will always tell you your wrong
