Hi
Looking to book our first trip to Spain for a couple of weeks in March/April the ferry seems to be coming in around £1000 for a return.
I tried the camc site but it couldn't find any crossings, I then tried BF.
Is this about right or am I looking in the wrong place.

I've been checking prices too.....gave it a miss...far too expensive...£1000...yes that's about it...

Hi, ask on here for a funsters "Voyager" membership number, use that for Brittany Ferries and get 10% discount, l did, also the member gets a tenner for every "guest" that books

There will be someone on shortly with a number, you could have mine but I will probably not rejoin so can’t spend the £10 note that I will earn.

£1000. Yes that about right. It is expensive, but then it's a bloody long way. We love it. Part of the holiday. Some hate it and prefer the long drive. When you add in the fuel costs and take off the cost of the cross channel ferry it evens out a bit, but it's never going to be cheaper.

Just out of interest which are cheaper ferries for IoM residents to take a MH

Absolutely, We kept a count of the cost coming down, Tunnel,Fuel,Tolls,Stops etc and it came out at about the same cost without the long drive on return journey.
Pre B, the journey back was okay as there was no time limit but it cannot be ignored now.

Definitely UK to Spain. It's harder to get from the IOM to Ireland than landing on the moon. The ferries only run in summer and once a wee (there and back same day) I had looked at it, it's possible but doesn't really make practical sense.

We have recently came from UK back to Spain with the two dogs via the tunnel and using toll roads, unfortunately we were limited for time as our original date to travel was cancelled due mechanical failure in the motorhome.
Once we arrived I tallied up the tolls and fuel costs for the trip and using my cost per mile from the trip calculated what the ferry to Bilbao / Santander costs were to compare the routes.

Cost for us was approx 900 Euros total to the Costa del Sol, using the Ferry to Sant would be around 1080 Euros, cheapest cabin and 2 kennels, dog friendly cabins are sold out almost as soon as they are available on the website, and ferry from Portsmouth to Caen would cost the same as the tunnel.

Big saving on the ferry to Spain is of course the fuel and tolls but the coat of the booking would have been around 650 Euros one way so that brings it to dearer than the tunnel. As I said the pet friendly cabins are like hens teeth and the kennels are medieval torture chambers for the animals.

By avoiding the toll roads you can save 186 euros but that means lots of roundabouts on the non motorway sections and some of the smaller towns are not where you want to take a 7m or more motorhome.

We have used the ferry to Spain every year for around 14 years but Im certainly thinking about using the tunnel and driving down if we come next year. It seems to take longer to board each year, this year we checked in at 6 am and did not get on the ship until around 8.30 and then the crossing now takes longer at 30 hours. On top of that I collect enough Tesco points to get a free tunnel crossing so that will make it cheaper as well.

Thanks for all the replies folks, I've decided it's too expensive for just a couple of weeks. If we had the time for at least 4 weeks that would be a different matter.
Thanks again

tis quite a sum

The prices are changing every few hours they are currently £1123 for the 27th March to 16th April with a MHF discount it would be £1010 still way too much for a 2 week break, it's a 6.3m van by the way.
Thanks for the thought but we will tour closer to home

If anyone needs a Brittany Ferry code to Spain pm me, just renewed my membership so code valid for a year
Does it work on the ferries to France or just Spain?

WE found that the cost has soared to Spain

IF you have the time Harwich to Hook of Holland is cheap (£100 one way)
Eurotunnel is good with Tesco points
P&O Dover /Calais is third

AFAICS theres not much in it. It does depend where you re coming from in UK and where you re going in Spain and what you want to do. Taking Valencia area as an example, the difference between travelling from Santander and Calais is only about 600 miles, so 1.5 - 2 days travelling and as its possible but a push getting from Santander to Benidorm in a day its comes down to the difference of an extra day.

Another factor is how you want to spend your time, we are starting to work up towards the tunnel tomorrow from Denia and will take 6 days because we are planning some stops along the way. There is a lot more flexibility with the shorter crossings ( Ive only just booked our return) and they re generally much less affected by the weather and you re only on them for 35-90 minutes as opposed to 24-30 hours.

If you join Brittany Ferries Voyager Club you get 30% discount on crossings which more than covers the cost joining in one trip
Its not expensive to join (imo) and been member for 15 years or more.

I end up with a tenner credit voucher which one can accrue to a max of 150 quid in a year and use to offset against a ticket.
It's a win win, although at the price you quite full membership would probably save you more dosh.

If my memory isn't playing tricks with me, it's always been expensive

You may well find that you will have your membership suspended if you do not remove that number.
BF monitor this forum, it happened to me a few years ago.
BTW BF Club Voyage discounts are now variable for new members, down to zero in July and August.

The discount isn't designed for public conumption. Lisa at BF wanted to know the name of the donor when I called!
Should have told her Karen told you...

The only reason I can see for keeping a BF code secret on here must be to ensure that everyone gets a chance to make a tenner.

If they do I'm surprised they turn a blind eye to folk on here blatantly requesting and passing on the discount code to 'strangers'.

Michelle: "Listen very carefully, I have been given a secret discount code to pass on to you".
Rene: "What is it?".
Michelle: "I cannot tell you. It is a secret".

Seems that some people are being overly concerned on my behalf.
Very nice of you and all that, and I appreciate your concern although I am not sure what business it is of yours, however I will take it down to appease the worriers, but I cant see how to delete or edit a post that I have put up to satisfy those who are worried for me.

If anyone would be so kind as to tell me how I can delete a post then I would be grateful.

I have reported my post to see if admin will delete it because I cant see how to delete it on line once its been answered .

If any motorhomefun friend wants a code to use to get a bit of discount then PM me. There is nothing wrong with that, although I might be pushing the boundaries by leaving it on open view (thanks for the PM who reminded me) Here is the direct question form the site

"Do any of your friends and relatives have a Club Voyage account?

Benefit from the Family & Friends discount of a Club Voyage member by entering their membership number below"

If you are a motorhomefun member I consider you to be a friend.

If you want some great discounts then join Voyager.

For those who are concerned I might be getting something for nothing, I am already up to my allowed 150 quid this year due to the restrictions lifting and lots of family visits to us in France, so nothing in it for me apart from the satisfaction of helping someone save a few quid. 😎

There are plenty of other CV members on here competing with one another to supply our membership numbers, me included:Smile:
So if you are up to your limit please desist:Smile:
