I wonder if anyone had experienced with corrosion inside their 16"Fiat alloy wheels caused by the puncture protection fluid? When I bought my new van 4 years ago I was offered to have some puncture protection fluid put inside the wheels. In less than 4 years I had 2 wheels leaking around 3mm behind the valve.
The valves are brass and react with the alloy being help by the fluid. Same problem you find on sailing boats. After cleaning all the wheels I found deep pitting around the valves. Can't understand why they use brass valves...

I’ve never really warmed to the idea of this due to that reason. I would say in this instance whatever gunk they’ve used is not fit for purpose and therefore a latent defect. I would go back to the company as those wheels can no longer be safe.

Great, I’ve just had mine filled!

I question if the sealant does the damage as thousands of mountain bikers run puncture sealant in alloy wheels, including myself, with out any corrosion problems, and assume the sealant would basically be the same stuff.

I don't know what make of sealant they used as it was put into the wheels before I collect the new van.

I had alloy wheels on a van a few years ago and one of the steel valves broke off while in Germany due to corrosion.

So what sort of metal valve should be fitted? Just about to get one of mine replaced.

So the issue is metal valves in an aluminium alloy rim and the sealant is the effectively a nice ionic liquid to allow bi-metallic corrosion to take place.

same valves used on car alloy wheels. Steel rubber coated should be acceptable I guess

It's rather like the galvanic corrosion my ally bodied Landy S2a has with it's steel chassis. Nevertheless they have still not been parted since 1963, but it's there!
