20+ if you include vw campers and the like
went up to armitage workshops to have a-frame fitted to our toyota rav4 on friday , excellent professional service from start to finish , they have a small cabin by canal side for customers, a car you can use and do a excellent cuppa , watched a frame being made and fitted , well pleased with price and work , it was questioned if the rav was alright to tow 4 down and i took the risk

long delay with getting things done on saturday to get off meant we were very late leaving, things went worse about 20 miles from home as temprature gauge rose very high , unhitched car moved on and then realised thermostat had stuck , temp hit all time high then all ok, rehitched car and carried on, through sleet/snow falling in north cornwall finally arrived 1am in praa ( by penzance )and off to sleep

morning great , car towed 280 miles and all fine with diffs etc ( cannot belive i washed it as now looks same as it did )

weather here great , blue sky, blue sea, sun out , beach with lots of people walking, not summer heat but superb for febuary

just going down to beach for a walk

Hi Robin,

I'm also looking to put an A-frame on a Rav 4, and was initially worried about the permanent 4 wheel drive aspect, and whether it would be suitable for towing.

After some digging around I came across this page on the Toyota site, which shows the Rav 4 as being ok to tow. They recommend a max of 200 miles, at 55mph before starting the vehicle and letting idle for 3 minutes at which point you can resume towing.

Glad to hear the install went well.

i had read similar
we were doing about 60mph
did stop at around 100 miles and started car , as i had read simlar
then carried on for the last 180 miles
it is great to have a 4x4 down here , apart from the comfort aspect it is fun
ours is a 1998 manual gearbox , swb , petrol ,awd car

still got over 25mpg out of m.home so well pleased

all fine

all back rav4 no problems at all on a frame with being towed 4 down

m.home 3.5t, car 1.3t, gtw> 5.5t
police did check it on way back while we were pulled over , no problem fully compliant , brakes fine, lights fine, triangles on rear, number plate correct
do not fit a on tow to rear of car as this means it is not a trailer but a car on tow and different rules
so pleased we had professional job done by armitage inc puncture preventer in tow car tyres

to be fair apart from large inclines car not at all noticable on rear of m.home

Looking at your avatar, the massive overhang, my mind boggles at the forces on MH/A-Frame/Rav as you go round a tight bend, say a roundabout. Talk about dog wagging it's tail !

aww! Darn it! I could have taken you down a few tracks! There is a lovely one along the coast near st.just along the cliff tops......places the car drivers just can't go!

Maybe next time - glad it all went well! Hope you had a good time, sorry the weather wasn't great....mind you will be worse this week - its' all water!!
