I read somewhere that the excellent CoPilot app might become compatible with Apple CarPlay sometime.
I’ve asked the question of the company and sadly, this was the reply:

Does CoPilot work with Apple CarPlay?
“NB: To be honest, the effort to implement CarPlay (iOS) is not small. Unfortunately this is a feature being driven solely from the Consumer market - which means unless we start to see interest from the Enterprise world, it's going to be very difficult to get the dev expense approved vs working on features that serve the enterprise customers better.

Unfortunately, there are no plans at this time to make CoPilot GPS compatible with CarPlay.
We will update users if this feature is ever made available.”

Are Funsters part of the “Enterprise world” I wonder?

Has anyone found a decent sat BSc app which is compatible with CarPlay?

…and into which dimensions can be added.

You could always have a cheap Android phone for Sat Nav use ...

To a diehard iPhone supporter that would be like a vegetarian keeping pork sausages in their fridge.

(Android user).
I'm vegetarian and I keep sausage in the fridge

For the dog :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

I don't have an iPhone but I do use copilot on a stand alone android tablet, 10" I think. Works a treat.

I have an iPhone on which the app works, but it would be much better viewed on the media player via CarPlay

I use copilot on an ipad fitted to the pop up dash document holder

Have you tried Apple Maps recently? The verbal instructions seem very detailed (I avoid looking t the screen).

According to Statcounter (and other) Android has just under 71% of the mobile phone market against Ios's just over 28.5% so you can kind of see their reasoning in not supporting it.

I have no iPhone but LOADS of sausage in the fridge and freezer :)

Stopped using CoPilot when they got rid of the user-input maximum speed, road preferences and vehicle dimensions. I had a long protracted argument with them and they were unmoving. They felt that the only thing drivers needed was the add-on traffic news - which came at a cost.
Their customer service and communications were appalling.

I have tried RoadLords, WAZE, google maps, and a couple of others but to me, I would now say that Sygic offers the best Motorhome app, that stores maps offline so you don't use data. The down side to the OP, is that it seems to be only for Android. But then why would anyone still want to use the ghastly Apple and it's propriety cabling and inaccessible file system anyway? (throws grenade and ducks behind parapet) ::bigsmile: ::bigsmile:

I agree about CoPilot. I also stopped using it when they ditched the road profiling, it was the only bit of the app that was worth paying for. I find the free Google and Waze apps better and they work with Apple CarPlay.

Can’t agree with the Apple bit. My latest Apple device uses USB C which seems to be the current industry standard. I have no problem accessing my files using the app accurately (but unimaginatively) called “Files”.

If you had copilot caravan previously then when you upgrade to copilot gps all those features were retained, i currently use copilot gps and can chose road preferences, enter dimensions and weight, chose to exclude tolls, Congestion zones etc.

Yes, thanks. That's what we're using now and I do like it. It hasn't yet taken us down any roads too small, but I do keep wondering when it will. I have been subscribing to CoPilot because of the benefit of being able to enter the vehicle dimensions, after Waze once took us down a completely unsuitable road in Wales that we had to reverse out of a few years ago.

I did upgrade when they first made the changes and at that time moaned at them about the loss of road profiling. I didn’t get a reply so I consigned the app to room 101. However I took another look after your useful post and there have been some revisions including a return of the road profiling. I might give it another try but without Apple CarPlay it will not get regular use. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are in my opinion too good to ignore and probably the future of all navigation systems. Which brings me back to the original post

I had to look up the difference between “enterprise world” and “consumers”. It seems to be the Bovine Faeces way of saying they are not interested in individual customers only in the big corporations. It makes me wonder why they sell it as a phone app with caravan/motorhome settings when they are publicly saying they are not interested in the consumer market.

I have weight and dimensions input into my satnag and I've still been directed down inappropriate roads - but not often.
No matter how good the data (which is poor IMHO) it's unlikely to recognise where vehicles can be parked either side of the road or trees may hang too low to let you through. I've survived all of these without serious injury, however.
All of the many satnags Ive used (quite a few) have got me to my destination, one way or another, but I'll never know if it was the best route for me. What I dislike about some is the lack of clarity in the verbal instructions. I'm surprised that detailed maps are allowed to be visible to the driver but our laws have often been contradictory.

I review the suggested route before I set out and check out any bits that might be dodgy on Google Maps Street View. Well worth the 5 or 10 minutes it takes to avoid problems on the journey.

The bits that are likely to cause problems are the beginning and the end, when you need to get to or from the major roads.
The other time to watch out is when you're sent off on a deviation.
