Didnt realise that there was a difference but it seems my car radio wont accept mp4 files. ( mp4's can have video as well as audio, it seems)
Is there a simple little program that I can use to convert these files?.
Some people have spoken of windows media doing it one at a time but I have about 200 music files to convert so I can listen to them on the radio built into the car?
Thanks in advance
Mike

More than toes wet now!
Easy \ cheapest options are VLC or Audacity. Both free.

Using VLC
Open VLC (assuming installed)
Media
Convert \ Save
+Add
(drop down arrow to right of) Convert \ Save
Convert
(drop down arrow to right of) Profile
Audio - mp3
Insert a file name
Start

off you go!

Edit : sorry, meant to say just keep adding files at +Add. You don't have to do them singly.

Thank you all. I have installed vcl, thanks for your erudite instructions and it probably will do it .
Problem is that neither iTunes nor win explorer (win7) wont show me a a list of the mp4 files to convert en mass
Unless I look each one up under properties.
So perhaps I just leave it until I get a car that will play mp4 files

Thanks again
MIke

Since 1968'ish
There are a few free apps VLC being one .

Here's some more pointers

Individual files one at a time though and very easy.

If your files are spread all over the place and if it's a Windows (7?) machine you've got install Everything (https://www.voidtools.com/) it's free.
It will list, eh everything on your pc and attached usb \ hdd drives.
You can then filter that into various categories, audio being one, shown in the dropdown box at top right.
However, if they are all in one directory \ folder Burgo option above is the easiest solution.

Well I didnt expect all this help. It is win 7 and they are all in one place, Itunes, Downloed vtec and got very confused, should be able to do it under itunes but the options are not appearing
I think biggest part of the problem is Itunes.
I usually play them off an ancient ipod simply because I know that if I push the stop button on the ipod whilst driving, the music stops. Most of the radios nowadays seem to have such small buttons, even worse if you turn the volume control too hard, it goes into set up mode and the music just carries on!
Not what I want when I need to concentrate or perhaps even talk to Chatnav!
Thats the case in the camper, but in the car it only has 6 big buttons but there is nowhere you tuck the ipod so I thought I would try a memory stick... and thats where we are now, stuck again.
Just tried to copy all into seperate file but Itunes wont let me get it out, hoped to then sort by file extn ie mp3 or4. Its about 500 files most of them are mp4
Thanks
Mike
