With the ever-increasing cost of diesel - we broke the 100€ barrier on filling up recently - is changing to LPG a feasible option? Anyone done it? Costs? Advantages/disadvantages?

Saw on French TV this week a village where they are converting their cars for approx €1000 and if LPG is roughly half the cost of diesel it won't take long to recoup that.

I googled! http://www.go-lpg.co.uk/diesel.html gives an explanation and then says:

"...The above factors combine (along with many others not discussed here) to make actual conversion of most Diesel engines uneconomic. It would be simpler and quicker to fit a Petrol engine."

Back to the drawing board... Don't think they sell petrol engine MHs do they?

You can convert diesels to run on natural gas but you might have a problem filling up in Europe.:ROFLMAO:
Most buses & trucks and a lot of taxis run on natural gas in Thailand.

I have an LPG converted car, and have had the conversation before about diesels with the very knowledgeable chap who converted the car for me (& who works on converted RV's).

Nearly all conversions are for petrol vehicles, and when that is done the vehicle starts on petrol and switches to LPG when the engine is warm enough to vaporize it. Usually it's then running on 100% LPG, although a few cars need to keep a bit of petrol going in as well, otherwise they get injector problems.

Some diesels can be converted, but only to a mix which from memory is something like 70% diesel / 30% LPG. So you have to be doing a serious amount of mileage to justify the conversion cost - more than the vast majority of MH will do.

CNG - natural gas - is a different beast altogether, some HGVs have been converted but it's never taken off to any great degree. Filling stations exist but are few & far between. I've never heard of anything other than a HGV or bus being converted to CNG.
