I am looking at fitting a solar panels and am a bit confused.

It's stated that you should connect the battery first then panels. Therefore the panels should be disconnected before the battery. What is the effect on the controller if this is instruction isn't followed?

It's common to see threads on here where a fuse is fitted between the controller and battery. What is the reason for this? It seems contradictory, but I may be missing something obvious. If the fuse blows you're in effect disconnecting the battery first.

Disconnecting should have no bearing on the system.
Connecting battery first allows the controller to 'see' what voltage its going to work on...12v or 24v....and ste its parameters suit.

Thank you (y)

I was missing something, seeing the voltage and setting parameters. Thought something sinister may happen.
