Jackie and I will be leaving Australia in a few weeks to spend another 6 months motohoming in the northern hemisphere (UK/Europe and USA) however this time we are bringing our 12 year old granddaughter along for the entire trip. We will spend a few weeks in England and Wales before crossing Poole to Cherbourg in mid May and returning 12 weeks later Cherbourg to Poole in mid August.

Normally we wildcamp or use Aires etc however this time we think we might need to include some campsites where she can mix with kids her own age. We prefer warmth rather than cold but have not firmed up any itinerary or any particular countries or regions other than using Cherbourg as our gateway.

Would be interested in constructive comments on destinations and locations particularly from anyone who has toured with grandkids. We are travelling in our Hobby 600 where space is at a premium so will need to have plenty of things to do other than just driving hours on end.

Would suggest looking at some of the 75th DDay Anniversary events in Normandy beginning of June. Le Cormoran at Ravenoville Plage is great with pool, activities etc.

Brittany and Ile de Re also have great sites or Further South Switzerland and the Italian lakes are good bets but not a lot of school age kids around until Europe breaks up around the first week of July.

We did a tour of France and Spain with our 10 yo grand daughter a three years ago with our caravan before we moved to a motorhome

We used ASCI (low season of course ) and basically looked for site with heated pools ( which we used to have to prise her our of each evening)

We found economical sites along the med coast worked quite well and even managed to get to Benidorm in the South of Spain

Sites we found travelling from Dover /Calais crossing were
Chalon en Champagne -
Municipal de Macon - Macon
Camping Parc Bellevue - Cannes (rubbish place)
Camping La Massane Argeles (now apparently changing to statics only )
a good alternative is Camping Pujol also in Argeles
Camping Tucan - Lloret de Mar
Camping Barcelona - Mataro
Camping Alegria del Mar - Benicarlo
Camping Arena Blanca - Benidorm

All of these had stuff for a young girl to go and enjoy and most areas had tourist things that everyone can enjoy

Hopefully you will not have a problem but in some countries,Spain being one a child under 18, not traveling with parents needs the guardians to have a signed ,dated, statement showing full names addresses both of the parents & the persons acting as guardians.etc;etc; giving permission & usually showing passport numbers etc; + copies of them.

99% of countries ask for this @gus-lopez we had to have those when we took our grand-daughter for France and Spain

Arguably "civilisation" began in Italy. Take her to Pompeii and Herculaneum and show her how people lived 2000 years ago. The Colosseum too maybe, but don't over do it.

There is no shortage of excellent campsites in Italy with huge pools, wonderful beaches.

Just sent you a message with a few links in to things our children and grandchildren have enjoyed over the years in Northern France and to the ACSI link.

Expect to pay lots for full facility activity sites in peak periods.

Enjoy your planning.

We stayed at Freshwater Beach Holiday Park for a few days with the grandson (11).
https://www.freshwaterbeach.co.uk/
It was during school half-term holiday so there were lots of kids about. There is a set of buildings with restaurant, shop etc, and a 'fun centre' for the kids. It's a big site, best to have your own facilities as it may be a long walk to the toilet block. A short walk to the beach. It's the Jurassic Coast so maybe go hunting for fossils one day. It's west of Poole on the coast near Bridport.

7 years campers before that
In UK look at haven and park resorts both do reasonably priced 3 and 4 day breaks
In France we found yellah campsites good for children
All the above include some form of entertainment in the day and evenings
