I know all the arguments, sorry discussions that are on the forum about pros and cons but I’ve seriously starting considering one.
I’ve not had the RS a year yet and now they can’t even return an e mail have pretty much ruled them out for ever going back, I’ve looked at the THOR windsport and the construction of the newer rv’s and although the engines are huge Mpgs low the newer interiors aren’t as bad as I remember and so much room for the same length (almost) as I’ve got now.
Will probably do my HGV next year to open up more opportunities, should I scratch this itch or leave well alone ??
Cheers
Mark

We had three RVs and loved the space and comfort. Only gone eurovan due to licence change.

The biggest downside imho is finding suitable sites where you can ‘dump’ black waste. Especially in Europe.
then again, a tote can be used.
Or even better, and no donkey work dragging it to a dump point..... A macerator.
The best way to shove sh!t uphill.

If we could find an RV that was insulated enough to take to a ski resort in the winter and had storage lockers big enough to take a couple of cycles, without taking them to bits, we would be in the market for one.

Decent build quality, glass double glazing and 9" thick roof we've been in the Highlands and the Alps over New Year in the past, and were from memory about minus 5 in Paris last NYE in the 27b

Do use a oil filled radiator as well though

They can come winterised to a very high standard, RVs are popular in the high states and of course Canada too. Problem is most ship to uk from Florida or California and these are summer RVs. So you'd need to either get lucky if buying here second hand or have a warm one imported. Hopefully if Boris ever gets it done, then a benefit is we might be able to bring them in cheap (y)

Sorry just going off topic but what is the issue with the RS I ask as I like the layouts and was seriously thinking of buying one but a couple of comments off owners put me off so I bought the carthago.
Why do you want to off load the RS it's still an itch I'm not sure if I need to scratch or not in the future

Nothing wrong with the RS with regards to chassis mines the iveco 7.5 tonne, entertainment system second to none, self levelling, engine spot on, comfy and warm. Unfortunately they rely on one man to pdi, service, sort out all the technical stuff, and he works his balls off, they need another three of him, so e mails go unanswered unless you enquire about buying then you will have a salesman on within 5 minutes.
What just peeves me with such a quality vehicle they can’t follow up e mails or calls maybe it’s because I don’t buy new every year like a lot of their clients.

Some of the ones for sale at signature state duel glazed windows, are these what you would call winterised?

Still gotta move the van, no good for long termers.
To be honest you can buy adaptors from cak tank that fit on the black tank hose connection point, direct to a standard waste tank on wheels, have looked but means you need to keep changing the adaptor if fitting the hose I think

What's actually wrong with the RS you have got apart from a shitty dealer that isn't interested in your custom?
Why not take your wallet elsewhere and find a specialist who actually wants your business?
The only person to lose out "chopping it in" for another is YOU.

I know, as we did this when we had an rv and a fifth wheel. However, my freinds are quite ‘old’ and used to have a fully serviced pitch with an rv dump point on pitch, and try as we have, such pitches don’t exist, particularly where we live. That’s the difficulty if you are full time and on a long term pitch In an rv.

Very nice and pretty informative, definitely getting better with the styling, what are they like in a harsh winter? Can the furnace keep the cold out?

The Thor RVs are manufactured in Elkhart Indiana, way up north in USA , I think their winters are a little bit chillier than ours

Nothing wrong, per se, as usual I get a bit bored after a certain amount of time, but as you say shitty dealer not interested in my custom when I could be actively looking, offering a stupid trade in price, leaves a bitter taste, I never think I will ever make a profit and I’m not trying to, would never make a salesman for a starter. BUT what is supposed to be premium quality product has NO premium dealer back up basically boils my p**s, it doesn’t mean I will lose money purchasing an RV though, I’ve been looking at the higher end euro vans and I need to compare with the R Vs and understand the difference in quality not just size, if that makes sense.

We have heated black and grey tanks, and both the black and grey tank lockers are heated

I have never had an issue with dumping a tank to be honest as virtually every toilet block has a manhole or inspection cover that’s easy enough to access, and it is hardly like we have to do it every day, more alternative weeks to be honest, and with a 15 Gallon tote tank it’s not really a problem if I don’t want to move the van, I just join the queue of the men that enjoy pooing in a little plastic pot are carrying it around the site

This was the first winter we had ours -14 outside snug as a big inside. I did used to use a oil filled rad also because I found the RV blown heating really noisy but very good.

No, even the cheapest RVs have double glazing and proper glass. The winterised one have double heated floorspaces and tanks (often heated) along with extra insulation throughout.
Do you know if the slide outs are well insulated, or do the walls become a cold spot in bad weather?

Slideouts vary in construction so much, but even in the mid price ones the slide out walls are made of the same material as the regular walls and the seals when open and closed are sealed better than any motorhome door.
