My laptop will no longer connect to my homehub by wifi, works fine if plugged in,but hub asks for security key but still wont let laptop connect on wifi, its an acer laptop which was on windows 8.1 but had free upgrade to windows 10 about a year ago, is it a windows 10 problem, everything else using wifi is fine,
any ideas would be much appreciated
Thanks

Could be home group settings on your main computer network you may need to add lap top again due to upgrade.

Go into control panel and open the Device Manager:

Device%202.jpg

Scroll down to Network Adaptors and left click:

Device%201.jpg

Find the 802.11 adaptor, it may be a class N or A C. Does this have a triangle error icon on it? If so right click the adaptor and update the driver.

Device manager says network adapter working ok , windows not finding any faults, I looked at windows updates and found one that had failed but downloaded and installed on wired connection but still cant connect by wifi, it seems like the hub is blocking it for some reason. its a BT homehub 5

Try reseting the winsock.
Type cmd in the start search box
Click on run command prompt as adminstrator
In the command prompt type 'netsh winsock reset' (without the ' ) and press enter.

Restart computer/laptop and you will be connected to the internet...

If you have a wifi connection and can see the network SSID name then it could be a duel band problem. Not seen this on a pc yet but common on macs, the homehub is a dual band router using 2.5ghz and 5 ghz. The problem is it uses the same SSID name and password on both frequencies which confuses the hell out of some computers, some wont connect at all or some work fine for a while then just stop. The cure is to go to the homehub settings and give one of the SSID names to a different name, just add a letter is the easiest, you can do the same to the password or leave alone, then join the new named wifi network.
