Hi all we have just purchased a new hymer 554 tramp and have just noticed the double glazed units attract a lot off condensation are there any hymer owners who have this problem never had the problem on my old van a swift

Do you mean condensation inside the double glazing?

Condensation otherwise needs a window or two cracked open. We never close all our windows on even the coldest nights in the UK and always try to air the MH as much as possible during the day.

Cooking and just breathing puts a lot of moisture in the air which has to come out somewhere.

Keep your motorhome ventilated: Let wet air out. The best way to remove water vapour is by providing adequate ventilation. Nobody likes draughts, but some ventilation is vital. Keep a small window ajar, or a roof light vent open, in each occupied room to give background ventilation, (but make sure your motorhome is still secure).
Open the windows in the morning when you get up to let the water vapour out, especially when you're doing the washing or cooking. Windows near the ceiling are more effective at letting water vapour out than ones lower down.
Fans in the roof vents are very good for ventilating 'wet rooms' such as bathrooms and kitchens. They are more effective than ordinary fans, since they get rid of the moisture from the air and let fresh air in, and also recycle the heat back into your home.

The following is an extract of how much water vapour is produced:

Each person breathing – approx ½ litre a day

Cooking per person – ½ lite per day

Average family ( 2 x 2 ) can produce between 7-14 litres of water per day in a bricked home. In a motorhome it would/could be more as it is a smaller place.

Leave a roof vent slightly open, maybe a window,if safe, open a little, try to keep the air circulating, a warm air fan on low heat low fan is preferable to a convection heat source as it circulates air better and reduces moisture, be aware of kettle boiling, cooking ensure you use extractor fan during these times, we also have a couple of low wattage tubular heaters on the dash that creates a warm air curtain in the front eliminating the cold feel from the screen as well as eliminating the condensation

Thanks that makes a lot of sense I will try leaving window open and see how I go

It must be flipping hot in there, as others have said you certainly need a bit of ventilation we usually leave the omnivent over the cooker open and with the thermostat set so that it comes on if something is on the cooker rings.
