Hi, just back from a 5 day trip and noticed quite a lot of condensation in the garage area. It was cold and foggy a lot of the time so the heating was on a fair bit. We haven’t been away this late during winter before and wondered if this is normal? The garage has heating vents in it and I’m wondering if this is causing the issue? Thanks all.

Indeed its your heating. We full time in a Carthago and are in the UK this winter and have done one other. When we first got the van I thought I had water ingress issues but soon worked it out to condensation. We have a large garage with two metal tracks for bike fixing. These get wet with the condensation along with the frame of the door which is metal. To help with the condensation build up I lay lengths of old towels over the metal racks. This soaks up the water droplets. I also place a wrapped up piece of towel each bottom corner of the garage door on the inside. This collects the water drop lets that slide down the sides of the frame and run a towel round the frame each morning. This prevents the build up of water lying in the garage floor that would lead to damp and mould on things inside as there is very little air circulation.

Last year I started to suffer severe condensation in my large garage (Carthargo). After closer inspection the false floor under the garage floor was full of water. I had water ingress. After tracing the source and repairing it the garage is now dry.

Thanks for the quick replies. It’s a Burstner Lyseo just 9 months old with a large garage and two large garage doors. I’m hoping it’s just condensation to be honest.

Ours is a Lyseo Harmony of about the same age so will watch the garage with interest. Thanks

I had my suspicions that we had some damp in the garage when I found a couple of bags I’d left in the there had some mould on them. On reflection I think I left something wet in the garage and didn’t air it out properly. Have kept an eye on it since which led to noticing the water/condensation in there. Definitely one to watch. I’ve checked all inside the van with a damp meter and it’s all ok so fingers crossed.

We had some )what I hope was) condensation in the rear offside wardrobe. I dried it out and it's still dry but we are going to use the van this weekend so will check that and the garage.

Suffered with condensation in Burstner Solano in garage back in 2007 then realised garage floor was single skin with no insulation, so added
50 mm polystyrene to floor with 6mm ply on top and it cured it.
I don’t seem to get as much condensation in current van though.

Also you must remember the garage is well sealed thus very little air circulation. Only yesterday in the warm direct sunshine on the south coast I managed to open both garage doors for a couple of hours to air the garage. Then shut them as the temp dropped. I also remove a lot of equipment in the winter that we will not use, (Chairs and some tables), so less opportunity for mould growth. I’m sure yours is not water ingress and very much down to the door frame being cold thus allowing the condensation to form

We get condensation all round our garage doors in the winter. There is a bare metal strip all round the door and it drips off this.

If you have a water tank inspection cap under the garage floor it might be worth checking that the cap is very securely on. These caps have a bit of a reputation for leaking when the tank is filled if they are not on properly and this can leave a lot of water slopping about in the void.

One of the reasons for the move from Aluminium to UPVC double glazing was the amount of condensation found on the metal frames. I suspect you are having the same issue.

Curious.
We have a fixed bed, beneath which is our “garage”,which we access either by lifting the bed inside or from the external door.
This time of year the heater blows warm air into the garage, under the bed,and we have not had any problems with that, condensation or otherwise. We did, however have a failed seal on the garage door on another occasion, easily repaired for £30 and not surprising on a 13 year old van.

Yes!
During the “beast from the east” I had to get up twice to turn it down! Well,I think that’s where the heat was coming from......yes, definitely the heating.:cool:;)

I have a Nexxo 690 2017 and suffered the same problem over Xmas/new year. When we got home I removed all the gear from the garage and let it all dry out (kit and garage). I would be interested in any remedies anyone has (sweetie seems to have fixed it on his van by insulating the floor but wonder if this cures the water droplets forming on the metal fittings (door frames etc)).

We have been in Sardinia and Sicily for two months in our Hymer B698 and I get condensation on the garage door frames every morning whether the heating has been on or not. I have been trying to find the reason for water under the mat for a long time but think it must be the condensation.

The droplets are formed because of the metal frame. My Carthago floor is insulated and it’s not the floor getting wet just the metal frame. By placing small pieces of towels at each bottom corner of the frame on the inside on the floor the droplets that run down both sides are absorbed and a wipe across the top finishes it of.This has stopped the problem of water building up on the floor

Had no problems on our Aclass our Water/Heater unit is located in there under bed (access to it is from garage) and we leave the water heater on Eco setting most of the time especially in cold weather. When heating is on gas we turn it off over night if its mild, but leave it on whilst on electric power. The garage gets very warm when on gas even with the vent in there closed.

This is a cure that I did on an aluminium window frame it’s hatch seal tape , easily removed when needed to replace etc working 100%.
