There are 2 drawbacks with Revolut IMO. one the limit on cash withdrawals and 2 you can only communicate with them by text and have to wait for a response
Yes I use Revolut but the limit doesn't bother me & if I need more I have an N26 account with 3 free withdrawals per month so I just transfer to that & draw out using that one.
It doesn't matter what country the cards are from as they charge for most including spanish. My spanish cards if used in anothers atm will always be charged
With my Revolut ,which is spanish registered, I rarely pay yet if my wife uses hers ,which is UK based ,she is always charged.
I agree about the chat feature but as others have said they will all be going that way.
If a machine wishes to charge either me , or the provider, even when it isn't passed on I will decline.

It's not the charge that is the problem.

Many give you a crap conversion rate. Often as much as 10% less.

I use a standalone atm in Carrefour that has no charges to me or the card providers. Can't remember the name but will check next time I am in there.
First I have used with Revolt,N26, & La Caixa /Caixabank cards is " Cash#Zone" atm. no charge to me or provider.

The other is Euro Net ( I think?)
This one.

Whether the same would apply using UK cards I have no idea ? My Revolut although taken out & registered in spain has a Lithunian iban & the others have spanish ones. & I am also withdrawing euros from euro accounts, so exchange rate isn't a problem .

When you cancel the transaction because you don't accept the fee the reserve remains in place for 24hrs. Therefore your balance is reduced, however it has also eaten into your monthly cash at ATM limit until it is released.
Update:
Doesn't appear so, there was only €243 in My Revolut account. On Saturday I went to draw out €140 saw the charges and declined, Sunday I went to draw out €140 & declined, today €40, charges were reasonable €1.80 so I declined & drew out €200, worked OK.

My niece tells me that Metro Bank don’t charge for Euro withdrawals and it’s a UK based telephone bank but has started to open branches as well.

They don't charge for ATM withdrawals or transactions (ie purchases) in Europe according to their website.

Halifax Clarity , Barclaycard reward card, Monza are among the cards that have good exchange rates and no fees but that does not stop a foreign. ATM charging for withdrawals. The UK banks have no control over that.

I tried 4 ATM's in Spain this evening. Santander charged 7 euros, the others 1.80 and 1. 85. I withdrew at Cajamar in the end. 1.85 euros. Took out 150 euros to soften the blow.

We have found nearly all restaurants, supermarkets, petrol stations will take cards including contactless for small transactions. It's only the odd campsite, bar or pub or things like market stalls, street food that want cash.

Did you look at the app and see the availability at any of those occasions? Or did it remain at €243 all Sat and Sunday until you actually withdrew €200

Last time I was there (2019) Santander was free if you had a uk Santander account. Might be worth opening an account just for that purpose.
We have a santander account and yes withdrawals are free ( at least in Spain) but the rate is usually worse than Revolut or Zero card. I try to use the Zero card as much as possible, and take the maximum amount of cash out of Revolut when I want to top up my cash pot.

Thanks all for the helpful replies. I've just withdrawn from a Kutxabank ATM in San Sebastian, commission-free - so that's another for your list sallylillian

Prior to this BBVA had wanted €6 and Santander €7.
I also withdrew from kutxabank in javea. No charges.

Although I can concur with the above Gav, we use Metro debit cards for cash withdrawals, but like other, we always check if any fee is charged to us at the point of withdrawal.

Like flatpackchicken Gary, we use the Nationwide credit card for large purchases like fuel, site fees, and a large food shop, etc, otherwise it's cash. We draw €200 at a time.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Found a free ATM in Spain today. The ATM was labelled Liber Bank however, the bank seems to be Unicaja Banco.

Went to withdraw $50 euros and it said 'the fee for this withdrawal is $0.00.

That was with a Halifax Clarity Credit Card.

Wish I'd found it yesterday instead of wasting 1.85. that would have bought a nice glass of wine at the café...or a bottle in the supermarket!!
