Having had the NFU hike up my premium for the second time, (£60 this year) for no significant reason, I have just taken out a policy with Comfort for £245.96 (without breakdown cover). It is only £304.08 with breakdown cover, but as I have recently renewed our Britannia Rescue cover in light of our ADAC fiasco, I didn't bother with Comfort's breakdown cover for this year.

BTW, the NFU do not provide breakdown cover for Motorhomes in excess of 3500Kgs. I have had that confirmed twice now. And so, for basic MH insurance for a 12 year old vehicle, they wanted £393.52. On yer bike NFU.

Thanks to Jim (Scotjimland) for the initial post. :thumb:

Cheers,

Jock.

I'm a newbie
Motorhome Insurance

I've just been on line and had a quote from Comfort Insurance and have to say that I was most pleasantly surprised. They are most definitely getting our business. Thank you very much for the tip. ::bigsmile:::bigsmile:

Due to an unexpected shortfall in what we were left with after selling our shop we have had to reduce our purchase from the long awaited and planned for Auto-trail Delaware to an Auto-trail Miami 740D. Not quite the same vehicle but a great piece of kit never-the-less.

We don't collect the Miami until the end of the month but are planning to spend my 65th birthday in July on the Black Isles at Chanonry Point photographing our beloved dolphins.

We may see some of you there.

Kind regards

Craig

frankpickles.co.uk just beat my quote from Comfort by £200

Their website was the only one that seemed to ask all the relevant questions and their people were really helpful on the phone too. They get my vote!

My experience of Frank Pickles, is that they A....haven't got a clue what an "A" Class MH is, and B....only have a £500 pound limit on windscreen cover.

Jock.

I'm sure thats true Jock, but since since the only A my van might qualify for is ex-Ambulance and the difference was between £400 and £200, I'm happy to give them a punt.

I found the whole business of sourcing insurance quite annoying. Most of the websites I tried were very frustrating, people on the phone were off-hand, but these guys were helpful and asked the relevant questions. I hope I never need to find out if their service is as good as their prices but my experience of insurance companies in general has not left me with high expectations.

If my vehicle was worth more than 15x the insurance premium I might have different requirements

Just tried to get a quote from Comfort - they wouldn't even think about it because the van has to come to London for a couple of nights for me to put all my stuff in it before travelling north. Weird.

Comfort are a broker not an insurance company, and will penalise you if you cancel early as per their T & C.

Hi

Being a newbie I got quotes from over 20 different company's Comfort came out overall the lowest for me so I went with them £230.

I was staggered by the difference between the quotes the highest £1250+ because I'm a type 2 diabetic, my car insurance company didn't want to know, they said it's now not a requirement to inform the DVLA so you don't have to inform us and it wont effect your premium, but to be safe I would always declare it.

If you parked in a caravan site for the night then they would cover you. They don't like motorhomes being left on any street. Parking on your own drive or in storage is the requirement, no matter where you live. They will cover you if you are staying in the van, even wild parking. I can see no limits on my policy to parking in any locality providing I am using the van.

Just switched from Comfort (£515) to Safeguard (£440).
Like for like policy except excess is £50 more with Safeguard which I can live with as it's less than the saving on the policy if we do have a claim.
I went back to Comfort and gave them an opportunity to match Safeguard but they weren't able to (or didn't want to).
Adrian Flux was the joker (literally) in the pack - £850!
Also gave "the dark side" a chance to quote but they were just about the same as Comfort (same Aviva policy).

looking at comfort and safeguard at the min, both within £5 of each other but comfort have £200 excess and 4k mile limit, and safeguard has unlimited mileage but £300 excess. I will be visiting Adrian Flux in a minute (5 mins from my house and friends that work there) but they are great for everything but they have told me there not specialists in mh, but worth a visit as 90% of the women that work there are fit (shallow of me I know but I can also have a chat to my mate)

Renewed last week with Comfort , £250.64, I gave estimated mileage as 6000, no problems there or extra cost, £200 excess, no voluntary excess, full European cover, new for old up to 2 yr old, all in all looks good value.

I've been with Comfort for the last 15 years and always had excellent service from them.

As well as motorhome insurance they also do a combined travel/medical/house insurance that allows you to be away and leave your property unoccupied for up to 180 days at a time.

They are also one of the few companies that will issue a Green Card for the whole of Turkey not just the European side. At my age (79) it is very difficult to get any sort of travel/medical cover elsewhere.

I've never made a claim but have used the RAC breakdown twice, once in Portugal and once in the UK and both times excellent service.

1st motorhome. Reasonable value attached to it, inc satellite cover, £3k windscreen per claim and trailer cover and discount for MMM subscription was

£236.

Really helpful people too.

The neares to it was Sureterm which had lots of small print at £500.

Caravan club was £4136. Yes that is correct and not a typo!!!!!!

Changed to Comfort Ins this year after reading your reviews and am glad I did so (I'm not saying that any other company wouldn't be as good in an emergency)
Had a prang near Nevers in France when white van man took my nearside (Now off side) wing mirrow completely to bits.
Called the tel number in the brochure and very quickly they found me a garage in Nevers to fix it . They called back twice to ensure that all was ok and did I need any other help etc.:Eeek:

It takes the strain out of having an accident and lowers the stress level so a good "chuck up" for Comfort:thumb:
