We are contemplating a 2017 Comanche automatic and wondered if anyone had got a similar one and what it's mpg was ?

I guess the big question is "how are you going to drive it"

We always run with the cruise control at 55mph.

At present we have a 2017 Swift Bolero and on a long run we average 28 to 30 mpg

We have a 2015 Navajo 2.3 150 bhp Comfortmatic plated at 3750kgs and run close to that weight most of the time. Fair bit of European motorways and a lot of hilly ordinary roads. 22000 miles on clock. Don't drive around fretting too much about economy but having said that very rarely exceed 60 mph on motorways and don't exactly race around of motorway. So far based on full tank to full tank calculations 31 m p g.
Dash read out says 32. I know I could do better if I really tried.
Would add that although a big advocate (and user ) of cruise control it does knock economy a little. I also have cab aircon switched on most of time but never drive with windows open.

If you like the van and it meets your needs and makes you feel good go for it.

Does MPG matter in the bigger scheme of things? Say you do 12,000 miles a year, the difference between 25MPG and 30MPG is negligible in the world of owning a motorhome. Doing the arithmetic in my head, the difference between the two examples would be around 180 Gallons more = approx. 540 liters which at 1.2GPP/L = very approx. 650GBP is it worth worrying about. You would be best placed to look at the depreciation which will be a hell of a lot more.

I'm sure someone with more time will be able to do an exact calculation but the example was done in my head to make the point.

mmm.. let me think..

that's more than two weeks pension.. so yes, for me, it is worth considering when choosing a van or tow car

I think the question in this case though is if you are considering trading in a 2017 m/h for another 2017 m/h with all the costs and depreciation are you really a person worried about a few mpg (unless you really want one but are having problems persuading "the managment"!!!!)

Jim, I was not being flippant with regard to peoples incomes, hence the reason I placed my comment in context to purchasing and running the motorhome. The vehicle the OP mentions must be around the 65/70K mark and then he has insurance, maintenance on top of that, so as said in the grand scheme of things depreciation would be his biggest killer if having to look that closely at costs.

I've got a 2013 3ltr Commanche manual, so not the same as the one you're thinking of except perhaps in weight (although I'm only about 4400kg in full touring mode) and aerodynamics. I got about 22-23mpg until I slowed down a bit. I keep to the (over 3.5 ton) speed limit these days. I get about 25-26mpg. As Stewartwebr says, other costs are far more significant.

We are not much different then as we are usually loaded to max weight and an auto .

The 2.3 engines obviously give about 5 mpg more for the same 180bhp performance. Which is worth having but I paid about 30k less than I would have for a new one.

Is that correct, the 2.3L engine gives better MPG than the same powered 3.0L? I assumed the bigger engine would not have to work so hard so would have been the more economical.

Bigger engine would have bigger friction surfaces and heavier bits to get spinning and going up and down.

After saying that I wouldn't think there would be a lot in it.
