Hi

I need too buy a good quality canoe for two purposes - firstly to use on our small lake - partly for a bit of fun but really for removing duckweed, sorting rushes etc (kenos SWMBO happy). The plus would be I want something that I can also take away with me in the motorhome (keeps me happy).

It does need to be stable, I weigh 115kg and I need to put a 25kg box of treatment for the pond in the canoe as well.

Recommendations please

Thanks in advance

C

I have a canoe and dinghy, at 90kg I would not try and work from the canoe. But my 2.3m dinghy is good to work from and rated for 300kg. Mine has inflatable floor rather than slats. It weight is about 27kg and fits in camper boot alone with a 2hp outboard.

I think you are looking at two different vessels

For the pond you simply want an old second hand GRP rowing boat or similar.
Mirror Dinghies can be got for the price of a few beers.

For the motorhome you need a Broken Link Removed inflatable canoe

I think Sevylor only do Kayaks, a Gumotex is better and they do proper Canoes.

We have an inflatable kayak from Lidl up for grabs that’s never been used. It’s a two person one so the weight should be ok but I’d have to double check.
We don’t want a lot for it - it didn’t cost much in the first place :giggle::giggle:

Not IMV ...

Agree totally ... Gumotex are far, far superior.
We got rid of our Sevylor. Far too heavy and a PITA to pack!
Agree.

When looking for an inflatable kayak/canoe you do NOT want the type with internal bladders in an outer cover because the water gets into inner part so are an absolute s*d to dry out, been there, got the t-shirt and couldn't sell them quickly enough (not Sevylor but same principle).

Gumotex are made from a single multi-layered material so can be wiped down and stored, even damp, without any issues, the are also tough as old boots! They make kayak and canoe types so there's a lot of choice, they do come up second hand on Ebay occasionally so you might be lucky in finding one on there, if not we found that buying them direct from Czech. where they are made was cheaper but this obviously depends on the exchange rate.

If you do a search on the forum for Gumotex you'll find various threads about inflatable kayaks with info on them.

Definitely something like that would be safer for use when doing work, even a cheap inflatable dingy would do the job.

The inflatable is a compass (no longer available in the UK) the outboard is 30year old Yamaha 2 stroke that runs like clockwork.
