Back motorhoming after a 6ish year break!
My sister who lives next door has just had an Irish guy knock on her door asking to buy her motorhome seeing as she has now got a new one. He said his 'dad has driven past a few times and seen it'.

This is extremely concerning as ;

1 The new motorhome is mine

2 There is no way you can see it unless you have physically been down her drive

Disconnect the battery, lock on steering wheel, turn and lock seats etc etc. would be my immediate response

Hmmmm, worrying. Take every precaution you can, if possible turn it so it’s facing inwards, full lock on the steering and buy a ‘disc lock’ steering wheel cover.

If he was planning on stealing it WHY WOULD HE KNOCK ON THE DOOR,,?.BUSBY..its a regular occurance.just hoping to buy it cheap.

Had this a few months ago, Irish guy said he was from Newry. Offered a really good price too.

I have had them knock on the door 5 or 6 times over the last few years, first time I worried all night about it but was still on the drive in the morning. Like some have said why knock and ask if it’s for sale if they were going to steel it more likely looking for a cheep bargin.I have it alarmed and it has a tracker fitted.

To see if anyone was home, if nobody was at home ........... How do we know the people who have recently had their vans stolen from the driveway didnt have someone knock on the door ? We dont because probably nobody was in !

Whilst taking note of the possibility of a cold caller wanting to buy the motor on the cheap, there is sufficient enough information, in my experience, to take extra precautions and to not take those extra precautions could be an expensive error, in my view and the view of a few others.

If someone came to the door and offered to buy it, why not ask how much, if you don't want to sell it, tell him, can't see why he's going to pinch it, he could have done that anyway without offering to buy it.

To scope out any security on the vans or on the house.

Why lie about being up and down and seeing it, when that's not possible? Not to see the new one, hers is on view. He drove straight up to the house knowing it was there.

Hers has got a cover on it, it could be a burnt out shell for all he knows, didn't take first NO for an answer either.

**Also, he got out of the van and the driver dropped back out of view when he walked down the drive.

Cover story. Knock door, no reply, walk around and see what security you have.

You catch them walking around, cover story kicks in again. 🤷‍♂️

It's got a cover on it, how does he know he wants to buy it?

I have had them ask me a few times I usually walk round the van then ask them if thay can see any for sale signs ther answer is no there's your answer then
Bill

Maybe time to get a camera or two!
They have obviously been to look and lifted the cover to see what’s under it!

To see if there’s a dog, cameras, doorbell camera thingy, check out the occupants and take a nosy down the hallway when the doors answered. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

Not just Motorhome, speaking to my sister earlier, could hear shouting in the background and she said got to ring you back.
When she rang back apparently a van had pulled up to her neighbours house and a women got out and picked up their cat and put it in the van!!
Neighbours son shouted then a few others ran over and squared up to them, she said she was only stroking the cat🤬🤬🤬
They are scum of the earth🤬🤬🤬

I've had a few, especially during the Covid period. One chap I 'caught' snooping around it my drive said he was looking for his lost cat.

I’ve had a few knocks in the past . Normally Irish guys . My motorhome is a 2006 plate Swift so hardly top of the list for a criminal looking to steal one . If they knock enough doors they might get a really low priced offer excepted.
Personally I wouldn’t sell to anyone at the door. I can imagine they might return every time there was any problems with the van and demand money back etc .

Report it to Crime Stoppers. We had a car park in our drive at night for 10 minutes for no good reason. We got the reg but they had gone by the time I had got my trousers on.

Reported it to the local Crime Stoppers who were aware of problems with caravans but not caravans with an engine on the front (bless the young fools). They had been working with Cheshire and Derbyshire police and were setting up stings.

The more info they have the better.

It's always for their dad 🤷‍♂️
Can they not come up with a better story...like the prince of Namibia needs it to carry his wealth to the uk for some lucky person to get 🤭
I'm on a main road, nearly all of us have cameras, and have had many knocks on the door and notes left on the van....I dont lose sleep over it, lifes too short for that 👍

Happens all the time , I've lost count of the amount of times we've had folk at the door asking if campers are for sale and several have been Irish.

But nothing has ever happened after they've been told no. And that's been years now
