I'm very fond of a good cloutie dumpling:xThumb: ... My carer will probably make us one for the 25th January, to accompany haggis, neeps n tatties, all to be washed down with a few wee drams.:beerchug:

Clootie in Scots means cloth so it is a pudding steam in a cloth and traditionally eaten in Scotland at Christmas and New Year and any other notable occasion. It is a less rich version of Christmas pudding.

As stated by Scotzsue, it is also excellent fried for breakfast. Whether that is better than with custard is something you need to work out for yourself.

They taste better than they look ,from memory thick skin and very sweet ....:xgrin: Perhaps @Wildbill can give the recipe.
The boss's mother pinched my big crab/ lobster boiling pot (she broke her cauldron) and boils them wrapped in a muslin cloth she no longer makes them ,age etc

Oops sorry @Camdoon was typing at same time but recipe has given me an idea cheers

On and off for many years.
One of the bakers near where I worked used to sell slices of cloutie dumpling. A firm favourite with some of the people I worked with :)

I might try a gf version for Christmas Day :)
