Hi everyone,

A family member has recently bought an old VW Type 2 camper and it has a Clipsal 240v socket on the outside:

The question is...

Does such a thing as a Clipsal-to-regular-blue-mains pigtail adaptor exist?

Looked on eBay but I'm either searching for the wrong thing, or it doesn't exist.

Advice welcomed please (y)

I'm not seeing any pigtail adaptors on there mate?

Something like this, but with a Clipsal plug on the end instead:

I would remove it and fit a normal socket.

Aahhh....

The van is an Aussie import!

Which could be why I've never seen a connector like this before, thanks @100brian (y)

It also explains the completely rust free bodywork after three or four decades

I would remove it and fit a normal socket.

I am presuming he wishes to keep it 'original'

I'm presuming the same. Although practicality may need to prevail so as a last resort, yes, we'll probably change the socket.

I think this may be the route to go...

Buy a regular pigtail, lop the supplied plug off the end and fit one of these.

Or just buy that Clipsal plug and make a patch lead from scratch.

Thanks for the links @Driventemple - very useful mate (y)

Agreed!

But I tend to plug things in to a socket, rather than socket things in to a plug.

Bad terminology :X3:

Spent ages searching the clipsal website and this is the closest there is today........ Won't fit anyway... And its AU$104

Sadly not @100brian as they only post to Aus, they won't ship overseas. Thanks though!

Thanks too @pappajohn - that is indeed a crazy price :(

I think we're going to just replace the entire socket on the van with a standard one that only costs £10 quid.

Just need to check the depth first (y)
