So it is that time of year again.

Cleaned the roof this morning.. tried all manner of cleaners, and believe it or not ended up using my bloody bus pass as a scrapper to get most of the mess off.

What do other folk use

As an aside, it was great to finally find a use for the bus pass !!

Oddly enough....................................

Left it dirty last year.
MOT place has an upstairs office.. Guy looked out, looked at the roof and said, ' hmmm Hope you take more care of the rest of the van that that'
Then at customs , young lady said 'coo, you should be ashamedat the state of that roof !' They have a camera that looks down !!

But .................

I often wonder if a filthy roof causes more drag than a cleaned and polished one ?
I mean, I might be loosing a whole mile of economy per tank full for all I know if I leave it dirty !!

Post code on the roof !!! ???

Yer, I am really going to advertise to the world where I live !!! LOL !!

Ok, I know I am lucky in that if I am away two people move straight in to run the business so the house is never empty, but why take the chance !

Do people REALLY put their post code on their roof ???

It's all making sense now. Yesterday I offered to give my wife a [STRIKE]bun[/STRIKE] Boost up onto the roof for cleaning purposes and she must have said "Muc - Off". It was her birthday so I put the ladder back and let her down

never cleaned the roof until after last hab service at hamilton enginnering who told me the green algea around seals will eventually cause the roof to leak so now make sure it is cleaned regularly at least along the seals

Just given me an idea..

Think I might look into putting the reg number on the roof in paint that can only be seen with black light or infrared..

Roof

1948, we had a Hymer which leaked thrugh the roof at 18 months old, Hymer uk said it could have been the dirty roof, one which i had cleaned several times and wasnt that bad. That was the beginning of the end of Hymers for us.

Well that`s our 13th year & still loving it.
clean roof = happy bunny

Muc Off... well that`s what it says on the tin....
Best thing for cleaning that clinging dirt off your motorhome.
Used it on ours and it`s amazing how you don`t get those black lines running down the sides. :thumb:

I am actually supposed to be a MucOff dealer !
Love it on the bikes but am reluctant to use it on the motorhome cos it is a bit violent !!

I spilt a little on some concrete. It cleaned that up shiny white.. A bit worrying really :winky:

I get mine done twice a year

I get a young boy (child labour) to go on my roof to do it a couple of times a year.. cannot get up on the roof myself... and same with Sue.

But for a fish and chip dinner for the family and a £5 to his son he is happy to do the roof for me... the Sat dome gets green in a about 6 months and the rest of the fiber glass roof looks dirty .. I look down on it from the bedroom, and it offends my eyes, so I do keep it clean.

I would not let the rest of the RV look dirty so the roof also gets a clean.

What do the owners with solar panels do? are they self cleaning or do they have to be cleaned every so often.

I always try to include the Roof each time I give the M/H a wash (Most times I succeed):thumb:
Living where we do, in Cornwalls' Clay Country, we get a lot of airborne dust from the Clay Pits, which can be very greasy if left. Couple of times a year I get up there and give it a good coat of polish as well.

Still get those bloody black streaks tho after a while:Angry:

Aug 09 to date 9,000 miles!
This thread has amused me. We came back from nearly 4 weeks in France on Weds and the M/H was actually right at the back of the boat, actually open to the sky. There was another to one side of us and others behind that you couldn't see from the vantage point X decks up from the car decks.

We were saying how nice and clean our roof looked, 'considering' and how utterly flthy the van roof next to us was. You could see exactly where on the roof the chap usually cleaned to.

Have to say my darling husband went out and purchased a great big tall stepladder, precisely to enable him to clean the roof properly whenever his little heart desires - he hates half a job!

(see? that's why I never start the ironing, it's far too much to do all of it in one go ......)

Hi John,

After wetting the roof, I use a diluted solution of traffic film remover (applied from a spray bottle and much the same as the Autosmart product), a soft brush, and I only do sections at a time, then rinse off immediately. I never ever do the job in sunlight.

I polish my solar panels, which helps to repel the dirt.

Cheers,

Jock.
