Our dry cleaner was uncertain how to clean these as its a posh almost moleskin/ black out fabric. Has anyone ever washed theirs ? No washing instructions of course being custom.made in a germany for Hymer. Its only a few coffee splashes etc. Just want them perfect for selling.
Any thoughts?

Are you sure there are no care instructions? Most commercially made soft furnishings will have them attached somewhere. Check inside the linings at the top near the gathering tape.

If you have blackout linings you may have to remove them and clean the fabric separately. What a pain!

No she wondered if the material was similar to blackout. No lining.

Oh, I thought they had blackout linings. Are they the original curtains? If they are, can you email Hymer and ask?

Do you have a tie back or soething yu could eperiment with. Took ours down and washed them on a delicate program, they were fine, most annoyed as I was hoping for an excuse to change them. The curtains look lined, big worry is either lining or fabric will shrink. Have you tried spray dry clean on a hidden area?

Yes, testing a tie back would be a good indicator. I've often successfully hand washed fabric in tepid water instead of dry cleaning but it's always a bit of a risk.

On and off for many years.
Do a dab test on a bit that won't show - a piece of white cotton wool damp with tepid water and dab it on the darker part of the fabric. Look at the cotton wool and see if there is ANY colour showing on it. If there is the dark colour will run.

Could you dab out the coffee stains?

@Jac Sprat. All out Hymer curtains and nets have been machine washed on a delicate cool wash, without any problems.

Nets are sometimes soaked first, before machine washing.

And yes, they are definitely a pain to take down and pop back on again. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I think you can get a product to stop colours running. It would be worth using that as there's a big contrast in the colours and if the dark one runs it will spoil them. I'd definitely use a cold water wash though whatever product you use. Let us know how you get on. Good luck!

Dylon's version is called "colour catcher" but other makes are available. Usually in the same aisle as washing powder and the like in the supermarket.

I'd be more worried about shrinkage or crinkling or washing out any anti-crease finish that is already there - but I would wash them if they were mine.

After you have washed them are you going to use a flame retardant spray on them?

Agree with the suggestion of using a cold water wash & lots of detergent (spot treat any stains) rather than even 30 degrees as less likely to shrink - got caught once with shrinkage on lined curtains on Delicates wash so now only use cold programme.

Blackout and thermally lined curtains, which separate the front and rear sleeping areas from the lounge area. Then there are the net curtains which stop nosey bu@@ers looking in, but allow nosey occupants to watch others unnoticed.

And there you have it. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. ;)
