Am I right in thinking my clamp meter cant measure AC amps going into my printer (a large industrial 32a one)
because the neutral and live cables cancel each other out inside one sheath?

If i wanted to check do I need to get it round the one cable somehow. I just want to see how much it pulls and if I can add another device to the same 50a armoured feed cable.
The spec of the machine does say some figures but they vary.
Im looking to just check over a few minutes period and record it.

thanks

I made up a simple test lead to do exactly what you require.

Cheers

Before I owned a clamp meter, I bought one of these from ebay for around £7. It shows watts, amps and power factor amongst other things.View attachment 645723
Not going to work on a 32amp supply. :giggle:
But they are useful.
