I was speaking to the owner of a CL site who is seriously considering not opening this year because she fears contact with symptomatic carriers Covid 19.
Any suggestions on how to appease her.

No, frankly. As the world returns to doing what we have always regarded as normal things at some stage, some time, some person(s) will inevitably come into contact with some one who has it! We each need to respect other people's own risk assessment of their own risk. The absolutely only thing guaranteed in life as a whole is that one day we'll each die!

Any number of venues our club has been holding rallies at for 20 years, have already told us they're not intending to re-open to visitors for the whole of 2020.

Need more detail on your CL before I could comment, can you do a link?
I agree with Googlebot, if you are just providing water, and an Elsan point, even EHU, but no toilets or shower block, then go for the "Honesty Box" take number plates just in case;)
Maybe provide hand sanitiser/paper roll to dry hands at water taps & put a sign up advising everyone to use gloves, keep up SD rules, even use their own PPE, then you have done your bit at keeping everything Covid safe.
As soon as the overnight stay rules are relaxed, you will be back in business, with a clear conscience that you have provided a "safe" place to stay.
Let me know your decision, I might be tempted to visit also;)

I completely agree with Sedge - you shouldn’t be looking to appease her, even if you do know her personal circumstances. If she does decide she wants to open the CL, and then seeks advice on how to so as safely as possible, then the other comments should be very helpful.

Personal choice. Some CLs are seasonal, some open all year and if someone does not feel comfortable opening yet that is their choice and should be respected. Push too much and they might decide to close permanently. The C&MC is opening most but not all sites, this is no different.

I would also leave it be, the likelihood of her catching Covid on her cl I would of thought is remote, however if she did, why would you want to have had anything to do with her her opening and thereby catching it. We all just have to respects each others decisions around Covid isolation.

Agree with the others we won't be dashing to sit in a pub if they reduce the distancing to 1m its a personal choice what level of risk you decide to accept. In her case if she feels she doesn't want to open it's up to her.

There’s no law requiring her to open. Respect her wishes and don’t pressurise her.

Agree its a personal decision both for her and campers. we are booked for a short CL break in July, hopefully looking at the layout it should be OK. However if at any time we feel uncomfortable we will probably up sticks and come home. The biggest factor will probably be how others respect our space. Lets wait and see.

As people say, it's down to personal choice. If someone doesn't want to allow access to their land then you shouldn't force them.
Different people see different risks in different ways.

Like so many, we have been keeping well out of the way of people and keeping our distance. I do hope that many small sites and cl's do open, IF they feel they can safely for themselves and their visitors. Any decision should be what is right for them and not because people are pushing them to. We should have been away now in Europe and like many are disappointed that our trip could not go ahead. We hope that we will be able to use the van and perhaps spend a few nights away in this country, but would not feel comfortable being on a large site with lots of other people just at this moment. A cl type site with limited numbers would be something we would consider, but we would also consider what is happening in that particular area with regard to infection rates. Do we feel that we could maintain social distancing to minimise the risk to ourselves and those of that immediate location? For everyone, I hope that there may be opportunities for us all to use our motorhomes IF we feel our own personal situation will allow, and if we do, that those around us will be respectful of others and maintain SD and hygiene measures to protect one and other.

I think it has to be her personal decision.

After all, what do we know...........the experts dont agree, and may well be proved to have got some things wrong by the time the inevitable inquest is done.

This has to come down to individual choice.

A CL is limited in numbers on the site. If the site is smaller, you might perhaps reduce occupancy. You can, like the big clubs and sites, say it is pitch only without any toilet facilities (I'd expect cleaning is the greatest risk). I doubt any of the water fill taps, or elsan points get regular cleaning when most of those are out in the open, so those become user beware rather than site operator hands on.

Plenty of methods for payment to be taken without close contact. Showing someone to a pitch could be a simple diagram on a notice board on a small site with a few numbered pegs driven into the ground.

But noone is compelled to have people on their property. If they can survive without the income (and let's be honest a CL / CS at max occupancy won't be a mega money earner, for the remains of this years summer season (end Sept) how many are going to bother, especially if it's diverting their attention from other things they could be doing. I suspect many smaller sites that seem to open for only a couple of months in the summer do so fo a little bit of bunce between say the planting and spring harvest seasons and then the main autumn harvest.

Friend has decided not to open because in the severe risk group, probably a wise decision.
