Chunnel crossing to Calais (1 Viewer)

I was just about to book for Aug 24, not sure about things over the other side. Any thoughts from someone who's recently done it?

Yeah we came back 2 weeks ago.
We are booked on aug 27th to cross again.

We were delayed by an RTA on the M25 and the tunnel was closed because of burning tyres so we arrived in France later.
No problems on the return (actually I was asleep but I don't think so!).

It's slightly annoying if delayed but hey your sat in front of a full fridge, with a loo and your bed.... Could be worse.

Although I don't recommend having a shower in slow moving traffic... I found it doesn't drain as well as normal and I smashed by face on the shower door.

Booked on the Chunnel 11 am(ish) on 14 Sept. Will be travelling down fro Hollyhead over night so hope to miss out on the traffic jams....or is that wishful thinking on my behalf??!!

In france now. We were delayed 3 hours outbound. Went cross country to avoid op stack - no traffic but we all got car sick lol. Not looking forward to Calais next week for the return, the situation doesn't seem to be improving. I would consider an alternative crossing if I had a choice.

Just come back this morning, overnighted in Gravelines. Did not see one illegal and NO trouble boarding the 8.50 am train, we had more trouble on this side due to the M20 been closed between junction 8 - 9. Official on our train said the trouble is in the night when it is dark, they try to board the FREIGHT trains. Don't worry about it.

I think so..... if stack on delays inevatiable. Never seen anything like it in 25 years using crossings last week. Once across fine!

the bulk of the problem is with night trains in the freight terminal. Media hype is putting people of for no reason.

I agree, my earlier post was perhaps too flippant. We are using the tunnel again in August and I'm not remotely worried about it, there may be delays though unless operation stack is finished by then.

Don't let the media and uninformed posts put you off. Just go and have a great holiday.

The stacking won't affect you it's just for lorries , just allow another hour on your travel time and that will more than cover the diversion involved.
We came back today on the 11 o'clock train and saw a few bodies sleeping under carboard in the surrounding fields.We checked in early and were given an earlier train.
Once back in Britain the real hell began !
We crawled around the m 25 ,up the m11 ,then snail like up the a 14 ,even the a1 was back to back,it took us over 5 .5 hrs to get home a journey that usually takes just over 3 .
2 weeks in France at peak holiday time and never 1 traffic jam ,then back to this ,can't wait to escape again!

Hello Frentchy as we travelled around your beautiful country over the past 2 weeks especially in Normandy we saw piles of burnt tyres .They were around Le mont San Michael ,and the Normandy beaches,I was told it was the farmers protesting about the prices they get for their produce.
Seems that if you've got a an axe to grind in France you burn a few tyres and cause as much disruption as you want without fear of any come back.

Drove back yesterday, no problems, no delays, no burning tyres and very little traffic, wall to wall lorries queuing on the M20 trying to leave UK though!

Morning Mike. Unless you want to drive to Newhaven it's Dover-Calais by train or ferry. All you can do is book and hope for the best. We're going back over on 29th Aug, not worried just stay chilled!

Off the m4 at jct 13 Newbury then let sat nav do its job. It wasn't op stack we were avoiding but the congestion caused on the diversion as we were travelling on the Saturday.
