We got our MH in January this year and we simply love it. We retired in May this year and have been all over the place in UK learning the ropes and generally enjoying ourselves and the people we have met along the way.
We want to try our first 30 day+ trip this winter and we would like to be somewhere relatively warmer in Spain or Portugal over Christmas in the company of like minded people, with a view to coming home at the end of February latest. Reading other posts it is apparent that many people head for Benidorm and stay on sites that offer special rates for 30 day+ stays. We are a little nervous about committing to so long on a site that might not suit us as for us motor homing is all about moving on if where we are doesn't suit us. Do these sites get fully booked so that we have to book in advance and take pot luck that it suits us? What alternatives can you more experienced guys give us?
All information will be gratefully received and we look forward to meeting some of you on the road and raising a festive glass or three.................

We did our first Spanish Winter Trip [Gobur Folding Caravan!] in 2018/19 and chose our site almost at random, having seen details of a C&CC Rally in the Camping & Caravan Club Magazine. Emailed the site, and got a really welcoming response, offering a number of options and sensible answers to the questions we had. So we booked Camping Monmar at Moncofa for 31 days, leaving as the Rally proper got under way. Camping Monmar is not the prettiest site, but the facilities are very good, the staff are helpful, there are lots of experienced caravanners/motorhomers on hand to give practical help and/or tell you where to find the nearest Dealer/Supplier, and it's only a 200m saunter to the Med and then a gentle 15 mins walk along the beach and down the road to the Mercadona supermarket, the Ferreteria and the ubiquitous Chinese Shop for everything you never knew you needed ... All for €12 per night, including 6 amp electricity [€14 for 10 amp].

We emailed our next site, Camping Allegria,at Benicarlos, who confirmed they had pitches available. We drove there [70 miles each way] the week before our stay at Monmar expired and spent a couple of hours wandering round, checking the available pitches, chatted to the owners, and talked to as many campers as we could pin down! 3 weeks booking on a luxury serviced pitch at €17 per night including 10 amp electric. Lovely time, easy access to the Med [250m] and a pleasant stroll into town via the Marina [avoiding the bloody road trains of geriatric Germans on electric bikes ... the one bete noir of the trip] and a 5 miles or so each way easy cycle to Peniscola [El Cid location].

Artichoke Festival in early January is a delight, the town of Benicarlos is lovely and nicely vibrant, without being rowdy. We're itching to get back to both sites, it'll be like visiting old friends again.

I think there will still be places in most sites.
