we go to the Christmas market locally and in Manchester but have never been to one further afield in the UK or abroad. I know the c&cc and c&mc do trips abroad to Christmas markets So this got me thinking about planning a trip ourselves.

So which Christmas markets have you been to, where did you stop in your van and would you recommend?

Close to Calais Gravelines is a traditional French Christmas markets. Bruge and Brussels are good you can stay in bruge and get the train to Brussels. Valkenburg in the Netherlands has the Christmas markets underground in caves and a campsite up top. Strasbourg and Alsace espcially obernai are really good and plenty of aires in that region. I hear the German ones are pretty good but have only been to Baden Baden.

Bruges last year and obviously very nice but very expensive aire. I think it was 17.50 a night but includes electric. Big vote for Gravelines to tie in with Calais journeys

We stayed at camping memling a few months ago when visiting bruges. Valkenburg does look good. We would just be going over for the festivities so just a short trip and thought we could do 2-3 Christmas markets as I'm sure they're all different.

Also some of them carry-on between Christmas and New Year such as Liege, Baden-Baden, Obernai and perhaps Strasbourg so can be combined with a break over christmas. On a slightly different them Bernkastel-Kues on the Mosel has night wine markets down in the cellars at a similar time of year which is worth a look if your in the region.

We're off to York this year and have booked into Rowntree Park for a couple of nights. A really good market is in Bath. Finishes early, mid December, stay at the marina and take the park and ride into town. Don't go to Bath at the weekend it's so crowded!!

Go to Bath on a Saturday just before Christmas.

I guarantee it will be the first and last Christmas market that you will go to.

The ones abroad have to be better / less crowded.
