We've only been overwintering for a few years now but the actual figure does not tell the whole story. If you like it very hot then it won't happen in winter. Most nights are cold enough to need heating after dark but, during the day, the temperature warms up to a very pleasant 18 to 20 odd degrees most days. More importantly, most days it is sunny and DRY. No long gloomy grey days, no long periods of incessant cold rain. The sun can be very cheering and the warmth good for older bones ! There is very seldom a day when you can't do what you wanted to do because it is too cold/ wet/ miserable, as happens very often in a UK winter. Even the cold after dark is not the bone chilling stuff of UK winters though we do take gloves and scarves.

Be aware though that the wind blows suddenly and strongly in parts of Spain. Come prepared with guy ropes and good pegs if you intend to put out a carpet or anything else and don't be tempted to leave your awning out when you are not actually sitting under it. Even chairs and tables can get tossed about like leaves and cause quite a bit of damage when they hit other vans...

Thanks for that..very informative!:) will try depths of winter once wife retires....

Nice well disciplined campsite near the coast. Should be OK for space at the moment but is full from end December to April-ish. Long stay discounts are available. Walking with a group optional.

Ever thought of........a site:)

Plenty of room for awning shades, lots of sites.
Trouble is we really don't like the massive sites that seem to be the norm in that section of Spain. We normally use Stellplatz or Aires and would prefer to do the same in Spain.

A couple of out of the way sites, not too big and overcrowded, that we have spent extended periods at are

both of those are in the ACSI discount scheme but are a little out of the way.

We have never stopped at @jumars place, primarily we don't now have a motorhome, but it sounds like the type of site we would like.

This site seems very popular and not too big, again we have never stayed but can recommend the area

Farther north and inland, good for walking and wildlife, especially birds is

Spain is a big place with lots of variety, I am sure you will find many places that you would like.

Just noticed you are in NE Scotland, BIL lives near to Beauly, we spend a few days there every year.

OH has melanoma so we really need the shade. Beginning to wonder if Spain is for us.

join the club..even in the shade you need to be careful:(
while sun now makes me nervous you just have to take te right precautions, I bought a load of factor 50 clothing (and cream) including a floppy hat and cycling stuff, even swimwear. could not live without a bit of deep heat, life would be so miserable..just have to be sensible.

I'm a newbie and always will be. You never know it all.
You could check this one out. http://www.campingarmanello.com/en/.
We spent new year at Raco and then made our way to Portugal. On our way back through Spain to S/France we stopped at armianello for 2weeks.
Pet friendly, accept ACSI, Very nice bar/restaurant spotless toilets and showers and just the right size. although it may seem further out it's actually nearer the town than Raco.

If I remember rightly it was 16euro a night with ehu and discount for longer stays compared to Raco at 19euro

He wears a lot of Rohan clothing, good UV protection plus has factor 50 sun cream on prescription, never out without a hat etc. He's waiting for an appointment with the consultant as has a couple of new spots on his head and face, just hoping he doesn't have to wait too long.

I have posted some sites earlier, another one in Alcossebre is Camping Playa Tropicana, this is near the beach and more convenient than Ribamar but there is a C&CC rally that starts in January.

In Portugal we like Camping Ria Formosa at Cabanas de Tavira but what we like does not suit everyone and there is plenty of choice so it is easy to move on, never needed to book in ten years of winter trips.

As the chilly days of October start to arrive, we're really now counting down the days until we arrive in Benidorm, (El Raco on 20th November). We've only experienced the early spring, (Mar to June) weather in Spain but the description from @Eeyore sounds good enough to us, especially after last years winter at home!

Thanks also to the fantastic generosity of fellow funster @aldhp21, we've now got ourselves a lovely Dorema awning for some extra space, sitting out of any wind and feeling some warmth from the sun .

Los Madrilles is one of the sites that gets very busy, when we had a look around last year they were parked in the street waiting to see if anyone left.

Hi there This will be our first Christmas in Spain this year, has anyone booked in for Christmas around the Murcia area. I've been looking at La Manga rally through caravan and camping club, I wasn't going to book anywhere, but reading the forums it sounds like it gets quite busy so may book for 20 days around Christmas we are going to get to Spain for around the 20th of November and take a steady ride down to the south east any advice greatly received.

If you are not too bothered about where you stay you could risk it as it is after Christmas that it gets busy. We will be on the La Magna rally from the 27 Oct for 5 months and that does get full but usually Jan and Feb.

Passed it the other day, just a gravel car park outside Calnegre which is a small village. Not my idea of a stop for any more than a night or two.Might not be the one I saw which is to the east of the village although there isn't much to the place anyway. There is another aire out of the village heading towards Aguillas run by I think a German, didn't like the look of that either. We are at Totana just now,bit more civilised but nowhere near a beach.
