We have a 7 hour journey to a ferry, so does anyone have any ideas for a lovely Christmas market within an hours drive from arriving in France. Is anyone else planning a trip for a couple of days in early December?

Thanks for any advice.

@chaser reports that the Christmas market at Gravelines is a good one. According to the tourist office it starts on 12th December this year. We are hoping to go over for it for a long weekend

Thanks Helen, perhaps that would be a good idea for us too, what date are you thinking of?

Well, just in discussion with Alan (husband) but I've suggested Friday 11th December till Monday 14th December. Spend a couple of nights at Gravelines and a night at Bolougne probably

That's strange, I fancied Boulogne too. Will you use ferry or tunnel?

Gravelines is quite good. Spread out over the square and each side of the town walls plenty of food and drink options along with the other stalls. Otherwise Brugge is quiet good also.

We are planning Friday night in Gravelines then early to Brugge and will get the train to Ghent for the day which has a much bigger market and we prefer to Brugge.

Tunnel, we use tesco vouchers

Oooh I have quite a few vouchers, not used the tunnel yet, still novices. We have just been to Il de Re, doing Newhaven to Dieppe, loved it there. I think we will use the tunnel in December, no worries bout weather then. Thanks for your help.
