Hi,

My engine is as above. The oil dipstick has three marks with hatching between the three.

Below the bottom mark it says to add a quart.

Do I check when engine is cold and been sat ages or after a run and engine cooled a little?

Plus, if you know where I can download a manual or two for my workhorse/vortec combination I'd appreciate that too ::bigsmile:

AFAIK It should be checked when it is warm.

I allways check mine with a warm engine but always give it 10 minutes to settle before checking

so a bit of both your answers

Why dont you check in both situations and see if there is a difference

I want to know who told Brayn were to find the dipstick, never mind read it::bigsmile:
any who does it matter:Doh:
The difference between hot, warm or cold can be mesured in fluid ounces or parts thereof nothing to get excited about
Best practice however dictates a warm engine a few minuets after switching off dip and check twice to confirm 1st reading wipe dipstick between checks, more important use correct oil and dont over fill
here endeth the first lesson
