I tried searching but can't find it. How early can we get into the port at Portsmouth? Its our first ferry and don't like driving in the dark but wondered if we could check in about 4pm for the eve ferry?

The first time we headed to Portsmouth for the Spain ferry . We set off very early to avoid any delays. We parked up at Port Solent had a walk around did some shopping then a meal. Drove over to the port for arrival time stated on the tickets.

That’s a question I asked BF by email. I got a reply to some of my questions but not that one ☹️

We arrived at 5pm for the 9:30pm sailing to Santander a week or so ago. We were far from the first.

Perfect that is what we hoped. We are going to the car park at port solent first but would like to just park up and not worry about getting round there.

You’d be fine rocking up at 1600hrs. 👍

Wonder if they don't want it advertised. In the guff it says at least 60 mins before so that could be hours

From what I’ve seen you can arrive any time after the previous ferry has left. So once check in closed for the previous ferry then no reason why you can’t turn up and start a new line. Only my opinion but that’s what we’ve done and been very early.

We (and others) got to Portsmout very early for our P'mouth/Caen night crossing last autumn. We couldn't park alongside the fence as we had done for at least 20 years doing that crossing and we directed to a small carpark by the side of the terminal. Getting back to the check-in carpark involved going along the one way internal roadways the wrong way which was a bit worrying. However, we were all doing it and I didn't know if by going via the street, I would be going into the clean air zone. We'll arrive at a more suitable time on our next crossing.

Theres a lovely pub - The Ship & Castle - just around the corner from the port - walking distance- if you get there too early and want a meal/snack.

Worked great. We went to port Solent for a few hours. Quite a few vans parked up. We then cam across at 4 pm to the port and there were loads of vans/cars here already. It’s a long cold air though. At least we could move around people in cars must be really uncomfortable.

Anyway all the worrying and it’s all quite easy 😊

That "just around the corner" could be almost two miles. There's another down by The Hard, near the IOW ferry, not the cross channel ones. Careful if booking a table over the phone.
