French put tax on fuel prices and the cost of a barrel of oil also went up, so around 11cents a litre in January. So a litre works out at around £1.206 in France.

Portugal yesterday I paid around £1.10 and Spsin is usually several pence a litre cheaper. Mind you the price will rise again shortly, oil prices still seem to be rising.

Assuming it remains at the same level, for the first time we will be filling up before we leave. It's cheaper than France.
Conversely, we'll be leaving France on fumes as the price in Spain (€1.05 in Pamplona) is much cheaper.

I always fill up here, just want to be on my way - I even take food and wine !!
If the price of diesel got too high I just wouldn't travel so far- not always a bad thing

Personally ,it makes very little difference to me ,the price of fuel is just part of the cost of motorhoming ,and the extra couple of cents per litre is sod all.

I'm not splitting hairs. (I ain't got enough) but it's not the price of the stuff that is the factor. It's the exchange rate on the day.
A week ago the exchange rate was down at €1.12. Today it's €1.14 (and a lot)
If the price of diesel was taken at the exchange rate when the € was created (€ = 75p) then the price of diesel "Over there" would be well under a Quid a Litre.

My beef is that I don’t spend enough on fuel! That’s because my wife is obsessed with our dog, cat and three horses and so is reluctant to go away in the motorhome very often :( (I ought to say that our dog isn’t really the problem as she comes with us). So, we do 3000 miles a year absolute maximum :( That’s about 450 litres of diesel and so, even with a price differential of 20p per litre, high priced fuel costs us about another £90 per year. That’s peanuts compared with the cost of depreciation, servicing, insurance, habitation checks, the installation of security alarms and all the rest of it. I want to rack up thousands more miles a year and spend more money on fuel :)

If fuel is too expensive, slow down.

Charging along at 60mph, compared to 50-55mph, will cost more than a small fluctuation in exchange rates.

Make sure it's the latter (50mph) rather than the former (60mph) if you're 'Charging along' in France.
Single carriageway speeds have been reduced in France. (y)

Very true.

As we live there for six months of the year it is important to us.

We were just congratulating ourselves that, having dropped our vehicle weight below 3.5tonnes this winter we could “up” our speed to sixty from our previous 50mph limit.

Highly recommend this App for fuel prices while travelling, very accurate, updated frequently and clear to compare prices in location you happen to be. Got LPG on it too.

They're quoting 1.408 euros today for diesel. I remember demonstrations in France some years ago when fuel went up by a couple of centimes. They must have mellowed:(
