I saw an article in the latest MMM mag, about this system and though a TPMS wasn't on my 'must have' list, at about £20 as opposed to £100 or so, I though I'd give it a go.

The system arrived nicely boxed with all that you need and took about half an hour to fit and set up, (making a mounting bracket added some time).

Though I've not driven it yet, the system seems very good, showing the pressure in Bars or PSI, and the temerature in C or F of each tyre, the main unit is charged by solar or USB (presumably for lots of night driving), and each pressure cap has a small lithium battery.

What pressure do they go up to?
I run at around 80psi

Les - the display looks larger than the one from Tyrepal so that's good. Did the MMM article talk about this system supporting the longer than normal distance from the rear tyres to the display device? I only ask because I initially bought a cheaper system but had to send it back as the rear tyre pressure sensors kept losing their connection with the display. Instead I bought the more expensive Tyrepal system and that has worked just fine.

The fitting instructions don't mention any distance, just that it's operated buy radio signal.

I can only guess that the system may go up to 99psi, the caps read whatever pressure is in the tyre.

The system also has audible alarms for high and low pressure and temperature.

With an audible alarm, mounting it on the dashboard isn't essential I suppose.

How do you go on if your a little OCD and for instance, nsf says 75psi and osf says 76 psi.
It'd drive me nuts

Can you give a link to the seller ?
Thanks

I got a cheap one off eBay, drove me crackers trying to set it up via the Chinglish instructions and couldn't alter the pressures. Must ratch it out and have another go, they say you should raise your pulse/blood pressure at least once every day ?

My Tyrepal Solar colour stopped working a few weeks ago. The display went off and started making a loud clicking noise until I moved it to a dark place. Despite Tyrepals website saying they are working from home and responding to emails they haven't replied to any of mine so I was thinking of buying one of these to replace it with and am interested to hear what others think.

When I first switched it on the pressures weren't all slightly 'out', but after a minute or two (or three) they settled down to what I was happy with.

This is the seller, but there are lots on ebey selling the same kit.

The instructions with this kit were ok, but Youtube was better for setting it up.

I use this system and I also run at 80 psi. I was a bit sceptical at first but after about 2000 miles I’m totally confident in it. I’ve had it read 90psi when tyres are warm. I didn’t set the tyre pressures by it so there are a couple of psi differences between tyres but since fitting about 3 months ago the tyre pressures haven’t changed. This is lucky because to check the tyre pressures the old skool way you need the little spanner thing to remove the cap sensor.

I would think that the max pressure sensed is dependent upon the wheel units (i.e. the sensors) rather than the display.

P'raps you could monitor it by strapping one around your upper arm?

What pressure do they go up to?
I run at around 80psi

according to the description on the eBay link provided it states 5.9bar which is 85.5psi so if you run at 80psi cold I would suggest the warning alarm would be constantly sounding on the unit when on the move as the max you could set it to will be 5.9 bar.

Maybe the display only has two digits so max it could display would be 99 unless it starts to "go around" again! :whistle2:

I have an identical one one my car and its fine. The display isnt very bright so difficult to see in sunlight. The solar charge is enough to keep it running at night. I have only used the usb lead once in 6 months.

The cheapie i bought on eBay looks the part but it’s hopelessly inaccurate. It shows different pressures for each tyre despite the pressures being measured accurately with two alternative devices. The low pressure alarms do work though and that’s the main reason I bought the system.

If anyone has been able to find a reliable eBay/Chinese system that gives proper, accurate readings, I’d be grateful for a link.

See my link above, the readings are well within safe parameters.

Probably unwise to rely on any system to set tyre pressures accurately. It's really only to warn of a sudden change which they all do very well.

Buy cheap buy twice I always reckon.

Yeah that's what I thought a few year back and paid a fortune for a earlier version of this

Only problem you can't change the battery on the sensor so for the amount times I used it before the sensor was no good showed very poor value for the money, the cheap one above might prove the same but the whole system is the price of a new sensor from pressure pro. (y)

I bought an ERAYAK tyre monitor system through Amazon for about £50 used it for a time but then got fed up with taking the fittings off the tyre valves every time I needed to check tyre pressures/inflate with compressor so no longer use. They sometimes seemed a bit erratic. But it was very interesting to see the amount pressure increased when warm.

Hi Lesw,
I have had a look at a few of the adverts on ebay, they all seem to originate from China or thereabouts, however what I read on nearly all the descriptions is that they operate between 0--3.5 bar which doesn't seem suitable for a van that's running at 79psi which is around 4.5 bar how have you overcome this? Apart from this it seems a good buy, oh and the instructions are all in Chinglish .

This was the one I bought as it states up to 6 bar. Wasn't convinced at first but it's fine to 90psi so far.

The system he put a link in for says it measures to 5.9 bar

The description on the eBay shop I bought mine says 0-5.9 bar (85psi)..

I do too. I bought one that said 5.5bar so adequate just. Only issue I had is whilst it will read temperatures over 80psi the upper warning limit is only 72 psi so mine constantly alarms. All I do is turn it on when I get in the van after.l a couple of minutes all wheels have registered on the display and then I turn it off. No constant monitoring but no alarms yet I know temperatures before I start driving.

Hi LesW, I looked at the link you posted and it says the monitor has a range of 0-5.9 bar but if you scroll further down the page, the wheel sensors only go from 0-3.5 bar. Not sure how accuracy is affected when you exceed the upper limit!
Batteries in wheel sensors:
Others I have seen like this allow you to replace the battery (lithium coin cell) by removing the top part of the sensor. see:
We're still thinking about installing one of these systems but not sure which.
