Just a year
I still have loads of research to do but really like the look of these two as they have drop down double beds that don't need a ladder. Are the two manufacturers on par or is one considered more luxurious than the other.
They are both around the same price, the Bailey won't be available to view until November.
We are looking for our first moho. 7m long seems about the right length for us. Which one would you choose and why?

Thanks for your help

Gerry

Check out the Benimars, either Tessoro 486 or Mileo 286. Same spec as the Chausson. Seriously consider the auto in either. The Ford has the advantage of a 5 year warranty. Compared to the Bailey caravans I've had, the Benimar beats them hands down for quality.

I, and several other funsters, have bought the Burstner Lyseo 680g as shown here

It's the same layout as the two you have listed but with burstner quality. I can't comment on the bailey but did look at the chausson and this is significantly better in my opinion

Just check out the width of the Bailey they are generally wider. Not by much but with both mirrors out can make a difference on roads .
I am now changing from Bailey to Benimar tessorro 486. Next Tuesday yeehaa👍

if its your first motorhome, youre very brave buying brand new. most people arent really sure what suits then until they have actually used one in anger, buying pre loved makes changing vans a bit further down the line a lot more palatable

if you are going to be using van mainly in UK the baileys are very popular. If, however, you want to travel abroad foreign vans generally have more external storage for bikes etc and are usually designed for more outside living etc.

Thanks, very nice but very different price bracket.

Took a look at the bailey video. A few negatives I spotted;
Garage looks quite narrow. Doubt you would get two bikes in there
Floor is on two levels.....pet hate of mine
Table is electric...Bound to go wrong at some point and so sloooooooooooow
Window above toilet is a waste of space as most of the time you will have blind drawn. They might as well have put a mirrorred cabinet there for extra storage.
Are bailey still fitting narrow hab doors?
Payload is 400kg without water. With your wife, pooch, a full water tank then you will be lucky if you have 200kg left and that is not allowing for awning, solar, satellite etc
Drop down bed is not full width of van......hope your not tall!

Hope that helps if you haven't had a motorhome before

Well worth joining FB for the group. Its a closed group very friendly with none of the usual forum bitchiness, so only members can see what you post. Like most, put few personal details on when you join.

Check out if you can uprate the weights on the vans.

This is a way to insure you can increase your payload in the future.

I think Fords cannot be up rated....but ask.

Chausson do vans on Fiat chassis, again ask if possible to uprate those.

Might be useful to know and factor into your decision.

We have a 640 brand new , now a year old . Great layout but the table is too big IMO . Garage is massive and can get two adult bikes in plus all the gubbins . Have a suspect damp problem but that will be confirmed when I take it to the dealer - I can’t see anything .

pros - bed is very comfy . Traverse shower toilet combo is great . Mine fitted out with solar , LPG . And semi air suspension . Had a few electric issues at first but none since .

rattles like a bugger - don’t they all ? Got it from Hayes in Solihull and apart from the distance they have been very good .

We have a smaller Chausson.Bought from new our first van- we thought carefully about what we needed and chose once. Pleased with build quality. Plenty storage and a big fridge. We have a fixed bed as too heavy for drop down. Good big garage under it and takes bikes easily.Enough payload (checked at weighbridge) Diesel heating too noisy to run o/n so off grid it's cold first thing and slow to warm up.
That said my sisters just got a new Bailey and it's got a nicer feel inside.

It seems to me all motorhome tables are too big and too heavy. Have spent 5 years trying to find a replacement that can be used inside and out. Got a great collection of tables that seemed To fit the bill - most left at home! Succumbed to yet another from the Range yesterday😂 got to wait for next year to see if that works for us. All part of Motorhoming fun😂😂

I forgot to say that nearly everything we carry has to serve two purposes!!

I'll def buy new for my first one as I know , or I think I know , my criteria !! 7 meters, big garage, 2 good length couches large fridge /freezer. so for price , under £60,000 , it is between chausson 640, bailey, benimar . dont think I can afford german !!?? any other suggestions ?
when you say upgrade payload , is that to do with the springs / shocks ??

Yes Fords can be uprated, and they have a higher rear axle limit than Fiats.

For the Beni, the dealer will uprate for free when you buy it provided you have the C1 licence. Just a paper exercise to 3850kg, though you can go higher. Then it will need uprated tyres.

Hi
Benimar Tessoro 486 on Ford cannot be updated. Apparently no new fords can to my knowledge ??

You say the dealer will upgrade to 3850kg? What on Tessoro 486? Are you sure?
Thanks 👍

I wasn’t sure about all fords, given a recent post about a benimer based ford ' and my Ford weight plate.

iI will try and attach., and welcome any thoughts about it, as the VED doc says the vehicle is 3500 kg and I have no need to uprate.

Think it says my Fords max weight is 3550 kgs!

despite good . axle weights maximums.
